NSP OTR Registration Guide: Aadhaar eKYC, Face Authentication & Scholarship Application
Understand NSP One-Time Registration, Aadhaar or EID verification, face authentication, the OTR number and the separate scholarship application step.

Hello students! I am Runal Naik from AcademyCheck. If you are applying for a scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal, start by completing the official One-Time Registration (OTR) correctly and keep the generated number safe.
OTR is a one-time student registration, not the scholarship application itself. The official NSP guidance says a student needs an OTR for scholarship work; after generating it, you still log in, choose the applicable scheme and submit the fresh or renewal application.
What NSP OTR means
OTR creates a unique student reference for the scholarship portal and is intended to remain associated with the student's scholarship journey. The official student information describes OTR as a 14-digit number. Generate it only through the official NSP route and do not create multiple registrations.
What you need before starting
An Aadhaar number or an Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID), as permitted by the official flow.
An active mobile number that can receive the required verification messages.
An Android phone when the current process asks you to use the NSP OTR app and Aadhaar Face RD for face authentication.
Your name, date of birth and gender details matching the Aadhaar record or the identity record used for registration.
For a minor student, the Aadhaar or permitted identity details of a parent or legal guardian where the official guidance allows that route.
NSP OTR registration steps
Open the official NSP OTR registration page.
Read the instructions and choose the Aadhaar or EID route that applies to you.
Enter the requested details and give the required consent. Use an active mobile number for verification.
Install the official NSP OTR application and Aadhaar Face RD on Android when the process directs you to do so.
Complete face authentication and wait for the OTR reference to be generated.
Save the OTR number and the confirmation message. Do not share it publicly.
Return to NSP, log in with the OTR and complete the separate scholarship application for the correct academic year and scheme.
OTR is separate from the scholarship form
Stage | What it does |
|---|---|
OTR generation | Creates the student's one-time registration reference. |
Scheme selection | Lets the student identify the fresh or renewal scholarship that may apply. |
Application submission | Completes the actual scholarship form, documents, declarations and final submission. |
Verification and payment | Moves through institution or department checks and eligible DBT processing. |
Seeing an OTR number does not mean that a scholarship has been applied for, approved or paid. Check the application status and payment status separately.
Important rules to avoid rejection
Use one OTR per student. The official guidance warns that multiple OTRs can lead to debarment or other action.
Check the spelling of your name, date of birth and gender before completing authentication. A mismatch can block verification or create a correction problem.
Do not assume that OTR generation changes your scholarship eligibility. Eligibility comes from the scheme rules and your verified application.
Do not pay a private person for an OTR. The official guidance describes OTR generation as free through the NSP process, although a separate assisted service may have its own displayed charge.
Keep the OTR number, application ID, acknowledgement and uploaded-document record in a safe place.
Current portal and academic-year check
The official NSP student information currently states that the Academic Year 2026-27 portal opened on 1 June 2026. The opening date is not a universal deadline for every scheme. Check the selected scheme's closing date, institution verification window and correction period on the official portal before relying on a calendar reminder.
Common problems and practical checks
Face authentication does not complete
Check that Aadhaar biometrics are not locked, the Aadhaar Face RD app is current, the camera and lighting are suitable and the phone has a stable connection. Follow the error message shown by the official app; do not repeatedly create a new OTR.
Name or date of birth mismatch
Compare the entered information with Aadhaar or the permitted identity record. If the source record is wrong, use the official correction route before attempting another registration.
I have OTR but cannot see a scholarship form
OTR is only the first step. Log in with the OTR, select the applicable scheme and check whether the scheme is open for fresh or renewal applications and whether your course, category and institution details fit its rules.
My mobile number is not receiving the message
Check network coverage, the number entered and any official retry guidance. Do not give an OTP to a caller claiming to be from a scholarship office.

Do you need coaching for OTR?
No. OTR is an official digital registration process, not an entrance examination. Coaching is optional for the course or competitive exam connected with a scholarship; it cannot replace Aadhaar verification, an eligible scheme application or institution verification.
Frequently asked questions
Is OTR the scholarship application?
No. Generate OTR first, then log in and submit the separate scheme application.
Can I create two OTR numbers to fix a mistake?
No. Use the official correction or support route. Multiple OTRs can create serious problems.
Is OTR free?
The official OTR guidance describes generation through NSP as free. Do not pay an unofficial intermediary; if you use an assisted centre, read the displayed service terms and receipt.
What happens after OTR?
Use the OTR to log in, choose the relevant scholarship, submit documents and track verification and payment separately.
Summary and your next step
Complete one accurate OTR through the official NSP page, save the 14-digit reference and then submit the scholarship form for the correct scheme and academic year. Check the official status screens instead of relying on forwarded messages. Warm wishes for a smooth application!
Note: NSP dates, app requirements and scheme rules can change. Verify the latest instructions on the official portal before submitting.
