State PCS 2027 Complete Guide: Latest Updates, Prelims, Mains, Coaching Institutes & Test Series
Prepare State PCS prelims, mains and state-specific study. Compare Drishti IAS, Utkarsh Classes, StudyIQ and Khan Global Studies course scope and test support.

Hello aspirants! I am Runal Naik. If you are preparing for State PCS in 2027, start with your target state's syllabus, then build General Studies, state-specific knowledge and answer-writing together.
State PCS is a family of state civil-service examinations, not one national exam. UPPCS, Rajasthan RAS and MPPSC have different paper requirements. The current official 2026 schemes below are preparation references; your target recruitment's notification controls its dates, eligibility and final pattern.
These recruitments use Prelims, written Mains and an interview. Post-specific qualifications and document verification also matter when seeking appointment.
Latest changes that affect your preparation
Rajasthan RAS: RPSC's syllabus issued on 9 January 2026 specifies a three-hour Prelims paper and four Mains papers of 200 marks each. Older summaries showing two-hour Prelims or 250-mark Mains papers do not match this scheme.
MPPSC: the revised scheme dated 21 January 2026 gives two 300-mark Prelims papers with negative marking. Use the revised scheme when selecting mocks.
UPPCS: the current notification lists six General Studies papers in Mains, alongside General Hindi and Essay. Do not prepare an optional subject using an outdated pattern.
Use the official UPPSC, RPSC syllabus and MPPSC syllabus pages to select your examination and applicable notice.
Prelims: compare the actual papers
Examination | Current 2026 scheme |
|---|---|
UPPCS | GS-I: 200 marks / 2 hours |
Rajasthan RAS | GK and General Science |
MPPSC State Service | GS and General Aptitude |
UPPCS shortlisting uses GS-I, with GS-II qualifying; both papers must be attended. MPPSC also uses GS for shortlisting and treats General Aptitude as qualifying. Its minimum marks are 40% for unreserved candidates and 30% for the specified SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD categories.
Marking: UPPCS deducts one-third of the marks assigned to a wrong answer. RPSC's preliminary syllabus specifies a deduction of 1/3 mark per wrong answer. MPPSC awards three marks for a correct response and deducts one for a wrong response. Follow the applicable OMR and answer-option instructions when practising.
Mains: plan written practice from the beginning
Examination | Written papers |
|---|---|
UPPCS | General Hindi: 150 |
Rajasthan RAS | GS-I, GS-II, GS-III and |
MPPSC | Four GS papers: 300 each |
UPPCS and RAS give three hours per written paper. MPPSC's GS papers take three hours each; Hindi takes two hours and Essay/Drafting takes two-and-a-half hours. Practise the right language, word limit and writing time. Prelims marks are screening marks in these schemes, rather than a substitute for Mains performance.
Eligibility and application documents
Qualification: UPPCS and RAS require a recognised degree or equivalent, with additional conditions for particular posts. Check whether your qualification must be completed by the specified date.
Age: read the target notice's cutoff date, post-specific limits and category relaxations. One state's age limit is not a rule for every PCS exam.
Documents: keep degree/marksheets, identity details, photograph, signature and applicable category or domicile certificates ready. Follow the prescribed certificate format and validity.
Register through the commission's official application link, complete the form, pay the applicable fee and save the acknowledgement. Download the admit card separately when released. Check your name, examination, centre and reporting instructions before travelling.
Separate common GS from state-specific study
Common foundation: History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science and current affairs, mapped to the actual syllabus.
Uttar Pradesh: allocate time for UP-focused GS-V and GS-VI, including the state's history, culture, economy and governance.
Rajasthan: prepare Rajasthan history, art, literature, geography and economy alongside national topics.
Madhya Pradesh: use the MP-specific topics in the revised syllabus and practise its Hindi writing requirements.
Start with official previous papers. Mark each question against a syllabus heading; this is more useful than assuming a UPSC book list covers every state requirement.
Online coaching options for State PCS
Coaching is optional. AcademyCheck helps you compare course scope and learning support before buying. These four options serve different needs; the course details are provider-reported, and the teaching observations concern the linked excerpts.
Drishti IAS

Disha - numeric experience not stated in the sample - Geography teaching. This public concept lesson does not establish the complete paid-batch roster.
Choose when: you want a state-specific foundation with answer-writing support. The UPPCS listing includes UPDCAT and 500 evaluated answers; confirm the applicable evaluation schedule.
Check the Fees, Results, Facilities and teaching resources on AcademyCheck: Drishti IAS. Compare IAS/PCS courses, checking each listing's exact exam.

Classroom coaching and test-series checks
For classroom study, compare the actual centre, state syllabus, assigned teachers and evaluated copies. A national UPSC faculty profile alone does not demonstrate Rajasthan or UP-specific teaching.
Before buying tests, check:
Current paper duration, question count and negative marking.
State-specific coverage and realistic full-paper mocks.
Explanations for wrong options, not just an answer key.
Mains feedback on content, structure and language.
Access expiry, evaluation turnaround and whether tests are already included in your foundation package.
Drishti's UPDCAT/evaluated answers, Utkarsh's listed Prelims tests and KGS daily/chapter practice serve different purposes. A daily quiz count is not a full-mock count.
A preparation routine you can sustain
Select one main state and map its syllabus to your books.
Study common GS and a state-specific topic daily.
Practise aptitude and language throughout the week.
Write short Mains answers and review feedback.
Take a timed test, analyse errors and revise the weak topics before the next test.

Begin answer-writing early. Descriptive papers require practice that MCQs alone cannot provide.
Is a qualifying aptitude paper safe to ignore?
No. Meet the prescribed qualifying marks as well as performing well in the merit paper.
Is online coaching compulsory?
No. Choose it when its teaching, feedback or timetable fills a real gap in your preparation.
Does a 2027 course title confirm the official exam date?
No. The commission's notification and calendar establish the recruitment schedule.
