CAT 2027 Complete Guide: Latest Updates, IIM Admission, Top Coaching Institutes, Test Series & Mock Tests

Hello, future MBA students! I'm Runal Naik from AcademyCheck. CAT is an entrance test used for admission to IIM management programmes and listed non-IIM institutions. A good preparation plan connects eligibility, three-section practice, useful mock analysis and the admission requirements of your chosen colleges.

CAT 2027 latest update: choose the correct cycle

CAT 2027 registration dates, exam date and application fee have not been announced on the official CAT portal. Its current documents cover CAT 2026. The eligibility and pattern below use that published baseline; the 2027 notification will control changes. An MBA admission batch starting in 2027 and the CAT 2027 examination are different cycles, so check both the exam year and the programme intake.

Eligibility: check your qualification first

  • Graduates: the current requirement is a recognised bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA; SC, ST and PwBD candidates need 45%.

  • Final-year students: candidates in their final year, or awaiting results after completing degree requirements, can apply. Admission is conditional on submitting the required institutional certificate within the admitting IIM's deadline.

  • Professional qualifications: completed CA, CS, ICWA (CMA) and Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) qualifications are included, subject to the required percentage.

  • CGPA: use your university's certified conversion procedure. Do not automatically multiply every CGPA by the same factor.

The official eligibility document explains these conditions. Meeting the minimum lets you enter the process; it does not guarantee an interview shortlist.

Exam pattern and preparation priorities

The published CAT 2026 format is a 120-minute computer-based test, with 40 minutes per section. You cannot move between sections during their allotted time. The sections are Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA).

Section

Preparation focus

VARC

Read accurately; identify argument, inference and paragraph structure.

DILR

Translate data and conditions; select and complete workable sets.

QA

Build concepts, calculate carefully and choose solvable questions.

Use the official pattern announcement for this baseline. Check the eventual 2027 bulletin and official mock for the question mix, marking rules and interface instructions.

  • VARC: read a passage, summarise its argument and explain why rejected options are wrong. Fast reading without comprehension is poor practice.

  • DILR: work on charts, tables, arrangements and conditions. Practise selecting a set before committing several minutes to it.

  • QA: start with arithmetic and algebra, then develop geometry, number properties and other quantitative skills. Combine topic practice with mixed questions.

Use these topics to plan practice around your diagnostic test.

A weekly routine for college students and working professionals

  1. Diagnose: attempt a suitable practice test and identify concept, reading, calculation and selection errors.

  2. Learn and apply: protect regular study blocks for reading, one quantitative topic and a reasoning set. Solve before watching the explanation.

  3. Time your work: introduce section tests after basic competence; use full mocks to practise all three sections together.

  4. Review: revisit wrong, guessed and unattempted questions. Record the cause, corrective practice and a reattempt date.

  5. Adjust: use the week's mistakes to choose next week's work. Keep the plan manageable around classes, shifts or travel.

A student with weak fundamentals needs more learning time; a student with strong concepts but poor selection needs timed practice and analysis. Copying someone else's daily mock schedule can leave the real problem untouched.

Online coaching options and a classroom alternative

Coaching is optional. AcademyCheck can help you compare support around the gap you need to fix. Compare these current programme options around your learning needs and the inclusions of the selected product.

IMS India

  • Programme: CATapult Extensive Live 2027 describes live lessons, recorded learning, one-to-one mentorship and SimCAT performance analysis.

  • Mock scope: the programme lists 40 SimCATs and 30 CAT sectionals; its 104 ADMATs cover other MBA entrances. Count those resources separately.

  • Aman Verma: IMS's Delhi roster reports over 10 years of teaching Quant and LR/DI.

  • Nikhil Kumar: the same roster reports 10 years of teaching VARC. Confirm the assigned team for the online batch.

  • Teaching sample: the opening worked example in its percentage PYQ class assumes a total of 100 and separates a percentage of the total from a percentage of the remainder. Try the question independently first.

Compare CAT courses and test series on AcademyCheck. Confirm the live timetable and one-to-one mentoring availability for your selected IMS batch.

Career Launcher

  • Programme: its CAT 2027 online product includes live learning, recordings, 30 CAT mocks, 45 sectionals and personalised mentorship.

  • Aditya Jagtap: Career Launcher's online roster reports over 10 years of CAT mentoring, with a VARC role.

  • Rupen Kohli: the roster reports over eight years of teaching QA and DILR. Check who teaches your selected batch.

  • Selection check: compare the evening schedule with your commitments. Physical books and non-CAT preparation are separate choices in the selected product.

  • Teaching sample: the opening problem in its arithmetic class sketches perpendicular tracks and identifies their common meeting point before calculating. The session uses English and Hindi; check your language comfort.

Check courses and available videos through Career Launcher Delhi (Connaught Place), and compare CAT courses and test series on AcademyCheck. A local profile does not establish the assigned teacher for every online batch.

2IIM

  • Programme: its Live Online CAT 2027 course describes interactive classes, recorded lessons, practice questions and 30 original mocks, alongside previous papers in mock format.

  • Rajesh Balasubramanian: 2IIM identifies him as course director and features his mathematical teaching; teaching tenure is not stated on this page.

  • Jatin: 2IIM identifies him as Head of VARC; teaching tenure is not stated.

  • Selection check: distinguish the live course from self-paced access. Confirm recordings, books, doubt support and the selected test calendar.

  • Teaching sample: an early problem in the percentages PYQ class distinguishes equal metallic subsets from equal overall groups before forming a ratio. This older practice class demonstrates an approach, rather than a promise about the current assigned team.

T.I.M.E.: compare the actual centre and programme

  • Programme: its Chennai CAT 2027 disclosure describes teaching, printed material, Student Home Page practice, mentoring and interview preparation.

  • Mock scope: the disclosed package combines 25 scheduled AIMCATs with 25 self-administered CAT tests. Keep those categories separate when comparing packages.

  • Faculty check: this Chennai disclosure does not name the batch teachers. Ask for their names, subject experience and a complete demo before choosing a class.

  • Selection check: for classroom study, inspect the actual centre and travel time; for an online alternative, confirm its own timetable, recordings and support. Centre-specific inclusions do not automatically apply nationally.

Check courses, facilities and available videos through T.I.M.E. Chandigarh, and compare CAT courses and test series on AcademyCheck. Review a complete demo from the team teaching your batch before paying.

How to choose and use a CAT test series

  • Match the target year, latest pattern, access expiry and scheduled-test windows.

  • Count CAT full mocks separately from sectionals, topic tests and other MBA exams.

  • Inspect written/video explanations, time reports and section analysis.

  • Choose a workload that leaves time to review and reattempt.

After a mock, find missed solvable questions and time spent on unproductive attempts. A coaching percentile compares its test takers; it is not an official CAT result or guaranteed admission.

Application, admit card and IIM admission checklist

  1. Prepare records: qualification details, photograph, signature and applicable category/disability documents. Follow the cycle's certificate and upload requirements.

  2. Apply: register through the official CAT portal, complete details, choose programmes and preferences as instructed, pay and retain confirmation.

  3. Before the test: check the admit card, centre, reporting instructions and required identity documents.

  4. After results: track individual institutions' applications, shortlist notices and selection requirements. Listed non-IIM institutions have their own admission processes.

  5. For an offer: complete acceptance, fees and document verification within the institution's stated deadlines.

The official bulletin explains that IIMs set their own criteria and weights, using CAT performance alongside academic records, relevant work experience and other inputs. There is no single percentile that guarantees every IIM.

Frequently asked questions

1. Can a non-engineering graduate take CAT?

Yes. The degree and marks conditions apply; CAT eligibility is not restricted to engineering graduates.

2. Is work experience compulsory for everyone?

It is not a general CAT entry requirement. Individual management programmes may impose separate conditions or give it weight in selection.

3. Does a high total percentile settle admission?

No. Check the institution's overall and sectional requirements, academic criteria and subsequent selection stages.

4. Should I buy several mock series immediately?

Start with a reliable series you can analyse properly. Add another only when you need a different question mix or comparison and can review the extra work.

5. Are online classes enough for a working professional?

They can provide teaching and structure if the schedule fits. You still need independent practice, regular reading and time for mock review.

Summary and your next step

Check your exam cycle and eligibility, diagnose your three-section gaps, and choose support around those gaps. Analyse tests before adding more resources, then follow each college's admission process. Best wishes for your CAT preparation and MBA journey!
