JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme and Subject-Wise Questions

Understand the expected JEE Main 2027 pattern, including paper formats, subject-wise questions, marks, duration, languages and marking rules.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme and Subject-Wise Questions

JEE Main 2027 exam pattern will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the official information bulletin. Students can check it on jeemain.nta.nic.in. The bulletin will confirm the exam dates, paper format, question types, marking scheme, duration and languages.

Until NTA releases the 2027 notice, students can use the latest JEE Main pattern as a guide. The exam has different papers for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning. Knowing the pattern helps you plan time, choose questions and avoid losing marks through guesswork. In a three-hour paper, every minute has a job. Even the clock seems to prepare for JEE.

JEE Main 2027 Paper 1: B.E. and B.Tech

Paper 1 is for admission to B.E. and B.Tech courses. It is held in computer-based test mode and covers Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

FeatureDetails
Exam modeComputer-based test
Duration3 hours
SubjectsMathematics, Physics and Chemistry
Total questions75 questions
Total marks300 marks
Marks per subject100 marks

Subject-wise questions in Paper 1

Each subject has 25 questions:

  • 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • 5 Numerical Value Questions

All 25 questions in each subject are compulsory. This means students cannot choose a few questions from a larger set. You need to prepare all three subjects and manage your time across the full paper.

JEE Main marking scheme

Under the latest pattern, a correct answer carries 4 marks. An incorrect answer carries a penalty of 1 mark. The rule applies to MCQs and, as per the latest notified pattern, numerical value questions as well. Unanswered questions do not carry marks or a penalty.

NTA will confirm the exact marking scheme for JEE Main 2027 in its official bulletin. Students should read this section with care before the exam. A random guess can turn a possible zero into a minus one, which is not the kind of surprise anyone wants in an answer sheet.

Languages available for JEE Main

JEE Main is offered in English, Hindi and several regional languages. These include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The available language may depend on the exam city and the rules listed by NTA.

Choose your language while filling the application form. If you select a regional language, check the question paper instructions and translation rules in the information bulletin.

JEE Main Paper 2A: B.Arch

Paper 2A is for students who want to study Bachelor of Architecture. It has three parts: Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test.

SectionQuestionsMarks
Mathematics25, including 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions100
Aptitude Test50 MCQs200
Drawing Test2 questions100
Total77 questions400

The Mathematics and Aptitude sections are held on a computer. The Drawing Test is conducted in pen-and-paper mode. The paper usually has a three-hour duration, but students should confirm this in the 2027 notice.

JEE Main Paper 2B: B.Planning

Paper 2B is for admission to Bachelor of Planning courses. It includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning-Based Questions.

SectionQuestionsMarks
Mathematics25, including 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions100
Aptitude Test50 MCQs200
Planning-Based Questions25 MCQs100
Total100 questions400

How the pattern should shape your preparation

  • Divide study time between Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for Paper 1.
  • Practise numerical questions without relying on answer choices.
  • Solve past-year papers in a timed setting.
  • Keep an error notebook for formula mistakes and careless errors.
  • Take mock tests on a computer to build speed and comfort.
  • For B.Arch, practise sketching, perspective, scale and observation.
  • For B.Planning, revise basic planning ideas and solve aptitude questions.

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus is expected to draw from Class 11 and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. NTA will publish the final syllabus with the official notice. Check the official website for the final question count, marking rules, exam dates, paper language and any changes before making your study plan.
