West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has good news for WBJEE 2026 candidates. The board has started an online facility that lets you update your OBC status. This comes after the state government released an official notification about eligible classes for OBC reservation.

Where Can You Update Your OBC Status?
The online facility is now live at wbjeeb.nic.in/wbjee. To declare your OBC class, you need to log in using three things: your application number, roll number, and date of birth. The process is simple and can be done from home.
Understanding OBC Reservation in West Bengal
The state government has identified 66 classes that can avail 7% reservation in all services and posts under the Government of West Bengal. This is a change from the previous reservation percentage.
But here's something you should know. Just having your father's OBC certificate doesn't give you automatic reservation benefits. You need to meet specific criteria.
Who Can Claim OBC Reservation?
To be eligible for OBC reservation in WBJEE 2026, you must belong to the Non-Creamy Layer category. This is not optional. You also need a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued by the competent authority.
During document verification, if you cannot produce a valid OBC-NCL certificate, you will not get reservation benefits. In that case, you will be treated as a General Category candidate. So make sure you have all your documents ready.
List of Eligible OBC Classes
The updated list includes 66 classes. Some of these are Kapali, Baishya Kapali, Kurmi, Sutradhar, Karmakar, Kumbhakar, Swarnakar, Teli, Kolu, Napit, Yogi, Nath, and many more.
The list also includes Goala, Gope (in various forms like Pallav Gope, Ballav Gope, Yadav Gope, Ahir and Yadav), Moira (Halwai), Modak (Halwai), Barujibi, Satchasi, Malakar, Jolah (Ansari-Momin), Kansari, Tanti, Tantubaya, Dhanuk, Shankakar, and Keori/Koiri.
Other classes in the list are Raju, Nagar, Karani, Sarak, Tamboli/Tamali, Kosta/Kostha, Roniwar/Rauniyar, Scheduled Castes converts to Christianity and their progeny, Lakhera/Laahera, Fakir, Sain, Kahar, Betkar (Bentkar), and Chitrakar.
The list continues with Bhujel, Newar, Mangar, Nembang, Sampang, Bungchheng, Thami, Jogi, Dhimal, Hawari, Dhobi (other than those in SC list), Bhar, Khandait, Gangot, Turha, Dhunia, Patidar, and Kasai.
Additional classes include Hele/Halia/Chasi-Kaibartta, Das Kaibartta, Bansi Barman, Nashya-Sekh, Pahadia Muslim, Khen (Non-Bania category), Sukli, Sunuwar, Bharbhuja, Dewan, Rai (including Chamling), Rayeen (Kunjra), Shershabadia, Devanga, Hajjam (Muslim), and Chowduli (Muslim).

What Documents Do You Need?
While the notification talks about the online facility, make sure you have your OBC-NCL certificate ready. The certificate should be recent and issued by the right authority. Check the validity period of your certificate because expired certificates will not be accepted during verification.
What's Next for WBJEE 2026?
WBJEEB conducted the WBJEE 2026 exam on May 24, 2026. The board is expected to release the OMR sheets and response sheets soon. When these are released, you can check your individual responses submitted during the exam.
If you find any mistake in your OMR sheets, you can challenge them. The board will accept objections against response sheets for a limited time.
About WBJEE Merit Lists
After all the answer key objections are resolved, WBJEEB will prepare merit lists. There will be two separate merit lists: the General Merit Rank List and the Pharmacy Merit Rank List. Your rank will be based on your scores in the exam.
These merit lists will be used for counselling and seat allotment in various engineering and pharmacy colleges in West Bengal.
