What makes this exam different from others? There is no reservation quota here. Selection happens purely on merit. VIT also runs a category-based fee system, where top scorers pay lower tuition fees. MPCEA and BPCEA: Know Your Stream
When you fill out the application form, you will pick one of two streams:

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

- You must be Indian, NRI, PIO or OCI holder
- Your birth date should fall on or after July 1, 2005
- You need to have completed or be appearing in Class 12 from a recognised board
- You need 60% aggregate in PCM or PCB, with at least 50% in Maths or Biology
Students from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and North Eastern states get a relaxed cutoff of 50% instead of 60%. If you studied through NIOS or an open school, keep your migration certificate ready, VIT is strict about this.

How to Actually Prepare for VITEEE
Start early, ideally from Class 11. Last year's paper caught many students off guard because it didn't follow the usual pattern. With negative marking now in place, guessing blindly can hurt your score more than help it.
A few things that genuinely work:
- Master your basics first. Strong fundamentals cover most of your preparation.
- Take a mock test daily and track how your score changes over time.
- Solve previous year questions to understand the paper's format and difficulty.
- Keep the last two months purely for revision, not new topics.
- Stick to one or two books per subject instead of collecting ten different ones.
Based on last year's trend, 300 to 350 marks is considered a safe score. But if you're eyeing CSE at VIT Vellore, you'll need 410 or more, that branch is brutally competitive with a closing rank usually under 2500.
You don't need any special books beyond your NCERT textbooks and one good reference per subject. VIT doesn't release official question papers, so sample papers from trusted sources are your best bet for practice.
Slot Booking: The VIT Way
Unlike exams where your date gets assigned randomly, VIT lets you pick your own slot through its Online Test Booking System (OTBS). It works on a first-come-first-serve basis, and the window stays open for just two to three days. Miss it, and you'll get whatever slot is left over. So don't procrastinate on this step.
Admit Card and Result
Your admit card becomes available 48 hours before your exam slot. Download it from the OTBS portal using your application number and password. Check your centre address, exam timing and instructions carefully.
VIT doesn't publish a rank list or merit list in the traditional sense. It uses an equi-percentile method to normalise scores across different test sessions, since the exam runs on multiple dates. Once results are out, you'll get notified by email and can check your score using your application number and password.
Counselling and Fee Structure
Counselling happens online in five phases, based on rank, and is common across all campuses. The fee is INR 5900, non-refundable, though it gets adjusted against your advance tuition fee later.
One thing to keep in mind: once your seat is allotted, you cannot switch your branch, campus or category. So choose your preferences wisely before you submit them.
VIT also runs a five-category fee structure, where Category 1 students pay the lowest tuition and Category 5 pays the highest. As seats fill up in a branch, it reopens for the next fee category. So your final rank genuinely affects your annual budget, not just your branch choice.
