The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) has finally released the results everyone was waiting for. On Tuesday, the board declared the final list of selected candidates for the 2025 sub-inspector recruitment drive. A total of 4,543 candidates have made the cut, and the full list is now live on the board's official website.
If you have been checking that website every hour for the past few weeks, you are not alone. This was one of the biggest police recruitment drives the state has seen in recent years, and the numbers back that up.
What Posts Were Up for Grabs
The recruitment drive was not just about one type of job. It covered four different categories of posts:
- 4,242 posts of Sub-Inspector (Civil Police)
- 135 posts of Platoon Commander, PAC/Sub-Inspector (Armed Police)
- 60 posts of Platoon Commander/Sub-Inspector in the UP Special Security Force (UPSSF)
- 106 posts of Women SI (Civil Police) in the Women's Battalion
Put all these together, and you get the 4,543 posts that were filled this year.
A Look at the Numbers by Category
The board followed the state's reservation policy while preparing the final list. Here is how the selection broke down:
- 1,200 candidates selected in the general category
- 2,240 candidates selected against 1,222 OBC vacancies
- 1,017 candidates selected against 951 SC vacancies
- 86 candidates selected against 86 ST vacancies
Out of all the selected candidates, 954 are women. That is a solid number and shows that more women are stepping up to wear the uniform.
The Long Road to the Final List
This recruitment drive did not happen overnight. The notification came out in August 2025, and the response was massive. About 15.75 lakh candidates applied online. That is roughly the population of a mid-sized country applying for one set of exams.
The written exam took place across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, in multiple shifts. After the exam, the board released a provisional answer key. Candidates raised objections, and subject experts reviewed each one carefully. The final answer key came out on May 7, 2026.
Based on the written exam scores, 12,333 candidates were shortlisted for document verification and physical standard tests. These rounds took place between June 15 and June 17, 2026, and 11,637 candidates cleared this stage.
The Physical Test Chapter
Next came the Physical Efficiency Test, held from June 29 to July 4, 2026. This is the round where candidates had to prove they could run, and run fast. The board used RFID technology to record running times. No more relying on a stopwatch and someone's eyesight. This meant every second counted, and every candidate got a fair shot. In the end, 9,758 candidates qualified.
Keeping an Eye on Everything
Transparency was a big theme throughout this process. The board set up CCTV cameras at exam centres, document verification venues, and physical test sites. These feeds were monitored live from both district control rooms and the board's central control room. So if anyone tried to cut corners, there was a camera watching.
How the Final Merit List Was Made
The final merit list was not based on the written exam score alone. The board looked at three things together: the normalised scores from the written exam, the preferences candidates mentioned in their application forms, and the reservation policy that applies to each category.
Normalisation matters here because the exam was held in multiple shifts. Some shifts might have been tougher than others, so normalising the scores makes sure everyone is compared fairly, no matter which shift they sat in.
What Happens Next
Candidates who appeared for the written exam will be able to check their normalised scores from July 22, 2026. The board will share a dedicated link on its official website for this. A separate notice will explain the exact steps to follow, so keep checking the website if you want to know your score.
For now, congratulations are in order for the 4,543 candidates who made it through months of exams, verifications, and physical tests. It has been a long journey, and they earned their spot on that final list.
