UGC NET June 2026 Registration: Application Process, Dates, and Fee Details Explained

The National Testing Agency has started accepting applications for UGC NET June 2026. If you plan to apply for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor positions, or PhD admissions, here's what you need to know.

What is UGC NET?

UGC NET is a national test that determines whether you qualify for three important things. First, it checks if you can get a Junior Research Fellowship and become an Assistant Professor. Second, it shows if you're eligible to be an Assistant Professor and join a PhD programme. Third, it decides if you can take admission to a PhD programme.

The examination covers 85 subjects. NTA will conduct all tests in Computer Based Test mode.

When Can You Apply?

The application window opened on April 29, 2026. You have until May 20, 2026, to submit your form and pay the fee. That gives you about three weeks to complete the process.

If you make a mistake in your application, don't panic. NTA will open a correction window from May 22 to May 24, 2026. You can fix errors during this period.

The exam will take place between June 22 and June 30, 2026. You'll get your admit card by June 15, 2026. The agency will announce exam cities by June 10, 2026.

How Much Does It Cost?

The application fee depends on your category. General category candidates need to pay Rs. 1,150. If you belong to General-EWS or OBC-NCL categories, the fee is Rs. 600. For SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender applicants, the fee is Rs. 325.

Make sure you pay before May 20, 2026. Late payments will not be accepted.

How to Apply

You must apply online through the official NTA website. The agency will not accept applications submitted through any other method. Each candidate can submit only one application.

Here's a simple tip: read the information bulletin carefully before you start. It contains all the instructions you need. Missing a step could lead to your application being rejected, and nobody wants that after paying the fee.

NTA has made the process easier by allowing registration through Meri Pehchan, which is a single sign-on service. You can also use Aadhaar verification to make registration smoother.

Important Things to Remember

Use a valid email address and mobile number when you register. NTA will send all updates and information to these contact details. If you use an old email that you don't check often, you might miss important notifications.

Once you submit your application, you cannot change the details. So take your time and double-check everything before you hit that submit button. Look at your name, date of birth, category, and subject choice at least twice.

The agency will later release information about recorded responses and answer keys on the official website. Keep checking the portal for updates.

Exam Details

The examination will happen at multiple centres across the country. Your admit card will tell you the exact date, time, and location of your test centre. Don't expect to choose your preferred city. The agency assigns centres based on availability and other factors.

Need Help?

If you face any problems while filling out the application form, you can contact NTA. The official notice contains helpline numbers and email addresses. The support team can guide you through technical issues or answer questions about the application process.

What Happens After Registration?

After you submit your application and pay the fee, save the confirmation page. Take a printout or screenshot for your records. You'll need the application number to download your admit card later.

Mark these dates on your calendar: May 22-24 for corrections, June 10 for exam city announcement, and June 15 for admit card download. Setting phone reminders might help you stay on track.

The exam schedule spans nine days, which means different subjects will be tested on different dates. Your specific exam date will be mentioned on your admit card.

One more thing: applying early is always better than waiting until the last day. Internet servers can get slow when thousands of people try to apply at the same time. Technical glitches happen. Give yourself some buffer time.

You can access the application portal directly through the link provided on ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The website also has the information bulletin, frequently asked questions, and other helpful resources.

This examination opens doors to academic careers and research opportunities across India. Whether you want to teach at a university or pursue research, UGC NET is your gateway. Make sure you don't miss the deadline.
