If you appeared for UGC NET June 2026 in English, Commerce or Sociology, your exam journey is not over yet. The National Testing Agency, or NTA, will conduct the test again for these three subjects on 9 and 10 September 2026.
This re-exam is not your fault. NTA took the decision after a review committee found several problems in the June question papers. The fresh test will give candidates a fair chance under the same exam process.
Why is NTA conducting the re-exam?
After the June exam, many candidates raised concerns about the question papers. NTA then asked a committee to review them. The committee found errors that could affect the quality and fairness of the test.
The reported issues included incorrect facts, wrong names of well-known scholars, poorly written book titles, grammar and spelling errors, and problems with punctuation. Some questions were not framed clearly. The review also found repeated questions from older papers.
A paper with such errors may not test a candidate's knowledge in a fair way. This matters because UGC NET results can decide eligibility for Assistant Professor posts and other academic opportunities. NTA has therefore chosen to conduct a fresh test only for the three affected subjects.

English and Commerce are scheduled on the same date but in different shifts. Check your admit card for the final details. The information on your admit card will apply if it differs from any online post or social media message.
Where to download the admit card
The re-exam admit card is available on the official UGC NET website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in. You can log in with your application number and date of birth.
After downloading the admit card, check these details:
- Exam date and shift
- Exam city and centre address
- Reporting time
- Instructions for the test day
- Documents and photographs you must carry
Save a copy on your phone, but also carry a printed copy. Phones can be helpful, but they do not work well as paper substitutes at exam gates.
No extra fee for the re-exam
NTA has stated that candidates do not need to pay another examination fee. You have already paid the fee for the June 2026 exam. The re-exam is being held because of problems in the question papers, so candidates will not be charged again.
What will happen to the June result?
For English, Commerce and Sociology, the June exam result will not be treated as the final basis for the new result. The re-exam will be used to decide the outcome for these subjects.
NTA has also added a safeguard for candidates. For Assistant Professor eligibility, the number of qualified candidates will be based on 6% of the candidates who appeared. NTA will use the higher number between the June exam and the re-exam. This means the qualifying pool should not become smaller because of the re-test.

How to prepare in the final days
The syllabus has not changed, so avoid starting a completely new study plan. Use the remaining time to revise topics you already know and fix weak areas.
- Download and check your admit card today.
- Revise key concepts, theories, thinkers, authors and important terms.
- Practise past questions, but do not depend on repeated questions appearing again.
- Plan your travel to reach the centre before the reporting time.
- Keep a valid photo ID and any required photograph ready.
- Read the exam-day instructions before leaving home.
Do not trust messages that claim the test has been cancelled or postponed unless the update appears on the official NTA or UGC NET website. A forwarded message may travel faster than a bus, but it is not proof.
