If you sat for the UGC NET June 2026 exam, you have probably checked your phone about fifty times today, hoping for a notification about the answer key. We get it. That waiting period feels longer than the exam itself.
Here is the good news: the National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to release the provisional answer key soon on its official portal. The exam process wrapped up with a re-examination on July 5, 2026, but NTA has not yet confirmed the exact release date for the answer key or response sheets.
When Can You Expect the Answer Key?
Based on past exam cycles and recent reports, the provisional answer key and recorded responses should arrive during the third or fourth week of July 2026. Once live, you will be able to check the answer key, question paper, and your response sheet using your login details on the UGC NET portal.
How to Download the Answer Key
The process is simple and does not require any technical wizardry. Here is what you need to do:
- Visit the official UGC NET website
- Find and click the active link for the June 2026 answer key and challenge window
- Log in using your application number, date of birth or password, and the security pin shown on screen
- Once inside your dashboard, download the provisional answer key, response sheet, and question paper in PDF format
Keep a copy saved on your device and maybe one on cloud storage too. You never know when you will need to cross-check your answers at 2 am.
Got an Objection? Here Is the Challenge Process
Not happy with an answer? You can raise an objection once the key gets published. Each challenge costs a non-refundable processing fee of ₹200 per question. If subject experts agree with your objection, NTA refunds the fee straight to your bank account. So if you are confident about a wrong answer, it is worth the shot.
After reviewing all valid objections, NTA will release the final answer key. This final version decides your actual scorecard, so this stage matters more than it might seem.
A Quick Look at the June 2026 Exam
This cycle covered 87 subjects, including two new additions: Statistics and Forestry. The computer-based test had 150 objective-type questions worth 300 marks, and there was no negative marking, which is always a relief.
Exams ran in two shifts each day, from 9 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm. Out of 9,93,702 registered candidates, 7,35,614 showed up, giving an attendance rate of around 74 per cent. Applications opened on April 29, 2026 and closed on May 24, 2026.
What About Results and Qualification?
Results are expected in August 2026, once the objection window closes and the final key is ready. Only the top 6 per cent of candidates, based on aggregate scores, will qualify for Assistant Professor eligibility. For context, during the December 2025 cycle, 5,108 candidates secured the Junior Research Fellowship.
