UGC NET Notification 2026 | Important Dates
The NTA released the official UGC NET June 2026 notification PDF on 29 April 2026. The online application window began on the same day and closed on 20 May 2026 at 11:50 PM.
Candidates wishing to make changes to their application form can do so between 22 and 24 May 2026.
The UGC NET exam 2026 will be held in computer-based mode from 22nd to 30th June 2026 for 87 subjects.
The UGC NET Admit Card for the June session is likely to be released by 15 June 2026 on the official website of NTA.

UGC NET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have a Master’s degree with a minimum 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) from a UGC recognised university. Final year post-graduate students may apply provisionally; eligibility is confirmed on declaration of results.
You may also apply with a 4-year undergraduate degree.
Age Limits
JRF upper age limit is 30 years. For OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender, and women candidates, it is reduced to 35 years. The route to Assistant Professor has no maximum age limit.
Subject Eligibility
UGC NET June 2026 has a total of 87 subjects, two new subjects added by NTA this cycle are Statistics and Forestry. Subject Name and Code have been updated. Please check the official UGC NET 2026 notification PDF before selecting your subject code.
Exam Pattern for UGC NET 2026
The exam is computer-based with a duration of 3 hours. It has two papers back-to-back with no break.
Paper 1: General Aptitude - 50 questions, 100 marks.
Paper 2: Subject Specific - 100 questions, 200 marks.
Total Marks: 300. Both papers are mandatory.
Negative Marking: No.
For each correct answer, +2 marks and 0 marks for wrong answers or questions not answered.

You have about 39 days until June 22. Validity of Certificates
NET certificate for Assistant Professor is valid for lifetime. The JRF award letter is valid for 3 years from the date of issue – candidates need to enrol for a PhD programme within this period to avail the fellowship benefits.
