AC Team

If you sat for the UGC NET June 2026 exam, you are probably refreshing the NTA website every few minutes right now. We get it. The wait for an answer key feels a lot like waiting for exam results themselves, except this time you get to double check your own work first.
The National Testing Agency conducted the UGC NET June session from June 22 to June 30, 2026, with an extra date on July 5. The exam covered 87 subjects in Computer Based Test mode. Now candidates are waiting for the provisional answer key, which NTA is expected to release on ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
When Will NTA Release the Answer Key
NTA has not confirmed a fixed release date yet, but signs point to a release happening soon at the official portal. The answer key usually comes with the response sheet and question papers, so you will get a full picture of what you answered and what the correct response should have been.
Along with the answer key, NTA opens a challenge window for a short period. This gives candidates a chance to raise objections if they spot mistakes in the key.
How to Download the UGC NET Answer Key 2026
The process is simple and takes only a few minutes:
- Visit ugcnet.nta.nic.in
- Click on the "UGC NET Provisional Answer Key 2026" link on the homepage
- Enter your application number, date of birth, and the security code
- Submit the details
- Your answer key will appear on the screen
- Download the PDF and save a copy for your records
Keep your application number handy. Trying to log in without it is a bit like trying to enter a locked room without the key, which, ironically, is the exact thing we are talking about here.
How to Challenge the Answer Key
If you believe an answer in the key is wrong, you can raise a challenge directly on the portal. Here is how:
- Log in with your credentials on ugcnet.nta.nic.in
- Click on the Challenge Answer Key link
- Select the answer option you believe is correct for the question in doubt
- Save your claim
- Upload supporting documents as a single PDF file
- Pay the challenge fee and submit
Each challenge costs INR 200 per question, and this amount is non-refundable. So before you challenge a question, make sure you have solid proof, not just a hunch that your answer sounds right.
Marking Scheme You Should Know
The UGC NET exam follows a straightforward marking system:
| Answer Type | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct answer | +2 |
| Incorrect answer | 0 |
| Unattempted question | 0 |
There is no negative marking, which means guessing an answer will not hurt your score. If a question gets dropped later due to an error, candidates who attempted it still get two marks.
What Happens After the Challenge Window Closes
Once the challenge window shuts, subject experts review every objection raised by candidates. Based on their review, NTA prepares the final answer key. This final key becomes the basis for calculating your score and, eventually, your result.
NTA also uses a normalisation process for candidates who took the exam across different sessions or shifts. This means raw scores get converted into percentile scores so that everyone is compared fairly, regardless of which day or shift they appeared for the exam.
Understanding the answer key process matters because it gives you a fair shot at correcting genuine errors before your final score gets locked in. Once the key is out, go through it carefully, compare it with your response sheet, and check if any of your answers deserve a second look before the challenge window closes.
