  • Category
  • Exam city and centre address
  • Subject code and name
  • Photograph and signature

Exam Day Guidelines

Follow these instructions on exam day:

  • Wear a face mask to the exam centre
  • Appear only at the exam centre mentioned on your admit card
  • Sit only at the seat assigned to you based on your roll number
  • Follow all instructions given by the exam invigilator
  • Use only the rough sheets provided at the centre for calculations
  • Submit all rough sheets before leaving the exam hall
  • Do not bring any eatables to the exam centre

About the UGC NET Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers. Paper 1 has 50 questions for 100 marks. Paper 2 has 100 questions for 200 marks. The total exam is for 300 marks and lasts three hours.

Each correct answer gets you two marks. There is no negative marking for wrong answers, so attempt all questions.

The minimum qualifying marks are 40% for general category candidates and 35% for reserved category candidates.

What Happens After the Exam

The UGC NET exam determines your eligibility for roles as Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. It also helps with PhD admissions.

After the exam, the NTA will release the answer key. Candidates can challenge the answer key if they find any errors. The final results will be declared after considering all challenges.

City Intimation Slip vs Admit Card

Some candidates may confuse the city intimation slip with the admit card. They are different documents. The city slip only tells you the exam city or venue area. The admit card provides complete details including the exact exam centre address, your roll number, timing, and all exam day instructions.

The NTA released the city intimation slip on June 10, 2026. The admit card came out on June 17, 2026.

Why the Admit Card Matters

Your admit card is your entry pass to the examination hall. Without it, you cannot take the exam, no matter how well you have prepared. The admit card also contains important information about your exam centre location, shift timing, and roll number.

Keep multiple printouts of your admit card. Carry one with you on exam day and keep extras as backup. Do not rely on a digital copy on your phone, as electronic devices are not allowed in the exam centre.

Make sure the photograph on your admit card matches your current appearance. Carry the same type of photograph as an extra copy.

Quick Tips for Exam Day

Here are some practical tips to make your exam day smooth:

  • Visit your exam centre location a day before the exam if possible
  • Plan your travel route and time to avoid last-minute rush
  • Keep your admit card and ID card in a separate folder
  • Get a good night's sleep before the exam
  • Eat a light meal before leaving for the exam centre
  • Carry a transparent water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Reach the centre early to avoid stress

The UGC NET exam is an important step in your academic career. Proper preparation combined with following all exam day guidelines will help you perform your best. Download your admit card today, verify all details, and prepare your documents for the exam day.

If you face any problems downloading your admit card or notice any wrong information, contact the NTA helpdesk immediately. Do not wait until the last day to sort out any issues.
