TNPSC has opened applications for 6,574 Group 4 posts. Check key dates, qualifications, photo rules, merit ranking and application steps.

TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment 2026: 6,574 Posts, Dates and Rules

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has opened applications for 6,574 Group 4 posts in the state government. The online registration process began on October 6, 2026. Candidates who want to apply should check the post-wise qualifications before submitting the form.

The recruitment covers several government roles, including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Typist, Laboratory Assistant, Sales Assistant, Executive Officer in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, and Personal Clerk.

Important dates for TNPSC Group 4 recruitment

  • Application start date: October 6, 2026
  • Last date to apply online: November 5, 2026
  • Last date to edit the application: November 11, 2026
  • Written examination: January 10, 2027

Applicants should avoid waiting until the last day. A slow internet connection, payment issue, or a missing document can turn a five-minute task into a full afternoon adventure.

Posts included in the recruitment

The Group 4 recruitment covers posts across different departments. The duties and requirements vary from one post to another. A Village Administrative Officer may handle village-level records and public services. A Junior Assistant may support office work and file management. A Typist will handle typing and related clerical duties.

Other roles include Laboratory Assistant, Sales Assistant, Executive Officer and Personal Clerk. Candidates should read the official notification for the exact number of vacancies under each post, department details and service rules.

Check the qualification for each post

There is no single education rule for all 6,574 posts. Each post has its own qualification. Candidates must match their education and technical skills with the post they select.

For the Typist post, candidates must hold a certificate in the required typewriting examination. Similar technical conditions may apply to posts that require shorthand or other work skills.

Applicants with a degree must have completed their education in the required order. The order must be:

  1. Class 10
  2. Higher Secondary or Plus Two
  3. Degree

This means a degree alone may not meet the rule if the candidate did not complete the required earlier stages. Applicants should check the official notification instead of relying on general assumptions about degree eligibility.

How TNPSC will prepare the merit list

The merit list will be prepared based on the total marks scored in the written examination. Candidates should pay close attention to the exam pattern and topics given in the official notification.

For posts with technical qualifications, such as typewriting and shorthand, candidates with the highest level of the required technical qualification will receive priority in the ranking. This rule can matter when many applicants score similar marks in the written examination.

If two candidates have the same written examination marks and the same qualification, the older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list. Age can act as the tie-breaker in such cases.

Reservation and appointment rules

Reservation rules will be followed separately for each post. The applicable rules may depend on the department, post and category. Candidates should enter their community and other reservation details with care and keep the required certificates ready.

An incorrect claim or a mismatch in certificates can affect candidature during later stages. It is wise to check the certificate format and validity rules before completing the application.

Photo rules for the online application

TNPSC has set clear rules for the photograph uploaded with the application. The photo must be taken on or after the date of the recruitment notification, which was October 6, 2026.

The applicant's name and the date on which the photo was taken must be printed below the photograph. Candidates must also keep the same photo in digital form for upload and future use.

Do not use an old passport photo just because it is sitting in a drawer. Use a fresh photo that follows the required format. Check the size, file type and other upload conditions on the TNPSC website before submission.

Steps to apply online

  1. Visit the official TNPSC website.
  2. Read the Group 4 recruitment notification in full.
  3. Check the qualification for the post you want to choose.
  4. Keep education, community and technical certificates ready.
  5. Upload the required photo and other details in the given format.
  6. Review the application before final submission.
  7. Save or print the submitted application and payment record, if applicable.

The application edit window will remain open until November 11, 2026. Candidates should use this period to correct eligible details, but they should not treat it as a substitute for careful form filling.

Where to check the full rules

The complete eligibility conditions, post-wise vacancies, exam details, reservation rules, document requirements and application instructions are available in the official TNPSC notification. Candidates should use the TNPSC website as the main source for updates and avoid depending on forwarded messages or unverified social media posts.
