Who could apply for SBI Clerk 2026?

Applicants needed to meet the age, education and nationality rules set by SBI.

  • Age: Candidates had to be between 20 and 28 years old as on April 1, 2026.
  • Education: A graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university was required. An integrated dual degree was also accepted.
  • Final-year students: Students awaiting their final result could apply on a provisional basis, subject to the conditions in the official notification.
  • Computer skills: Applicants needed computer literacy for the Junior Associate role.
  • Nationality: Indian citizens could apply. Certain citizens of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh could also apply if they held the required certificate from the Indian government.

Age relaxation was available for reserved categories. SC and ST candidates received five years, while OBC candidates received three years. The relaxation for PwD candidates and ex-servicemen followed the rules in the notification.

The fee could be paid online through a debit card, credit card or internet banking. After payment, candidates needed to wait for the e-receipt. A successful transaction without an e-receipt was a sign to check the payment status before leaving the page.

Documents needed for the SBI Clerk form

Candidates were advised to keep these files ready before starting the form:

  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Scanned signature
  • Left thumb impression
  • Handwritten declaration
  • Graduation certificate or marksheets, where required
  • Category or special status certificate, if applicable

The photograph had to be a coloured image with a light background. The listed size was 200 × 230 pixels, with a file size of 20 to 50 KB. The signature had to be in black ink on white paper, sized at 140 × 60 pixels, with a file size of 10 to 20 KB.

The left thumb impression could be made with blue or black ink on white paper. The handwritten declaration also had to be clear and written in black ink. A blurry scan can turn a simple upload into a small digital headache.

How the SBI Clerk application process worked

  1. Visit sbi.bank.in and open the Current Openings section.
  2. Select the recruitment notice for Junior Associates, Customer Support and Sales.
  3. Click the online application link and choose New Registration.
  4. Enter your name, mobile number, email address and security code.
  5. Save the registration number and password shown on the screen.
  6. Upload the photograph, signature, thumb impression and handwritten declaration.
  7. Enter personal, academic, category and exam centre details.
  8. Preview every section and correct errors before final submission.
  9. Pay the application fee, if applicable.
  10. Download the e-receipt, confirmation page and filled application form.

Applicants should use the same details as those on their official records. They also needed to select the state, official language and exam centre with care. The chosen centre may apply to both the Preliminary and Main exams, and a separate correction window was not listed in the provided notification.

What happens after registration?

The SBI Clerk selection process includes the Preliminary exam, Main exam and a language proficiency test. The Preliminary exam carries 100 marks. The Main exam carries 200 marks. Preliminary marks are not counted in the final merit list. Candidates who qualify the Main exam may need to appear for the language test linked to the state they selected.

The expected exam schedule placed the Preliminary exam in September 2026 and the Main exam in November 2026. SBI had not announced the exact exam dates in the provided update, so candidates should track the official website for the admit card and schedule.

Common form mistakes to avoid

  • Do not submit more than one application unless the official rules allow it. If multiple forms are submitted, the latest complete form may be considered.
  • Check your date of birth, category, qualification and percentage before submission.
  • Do not pay the fee if you belong to an exempt category.
  • Make sure the photograph and signature meet the file size and pixel rules.
  • Save the registration number, password, e-receipt and application printout.
  • Use the Preview option. Once the final form is submitted, edits may not be allowed.
