GATE 2027 Application Form Delayed: Dates, Fees and Steps to Apply

GATE 2027 application form registration has been delayed by IIT Madras. The new registration start date will be announced on the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Once the link goes live, candidates must apply through the GATE Online Application Processing System, or GOAPS.

The delay has not changed the last date at present. Candidates can submit the GATE 2027 application form with the regular fee until September 27, 2026. The last date with the extended fee is October 5, 2026. If IIT Madras changes the registration schedule, these dates may also be revised.

Who can apply for GATE 2027?

Students in the third year or higher of an eligible degree programme can apply. Candidates who have completed their degree can also register. Eligible backgrounds may include engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts and humanities, depending on the chosen paper and admission rules.

There is no age limit or attempt limit for GATE. A diploma holder cannot apply directly. However, a student who joined a BTech programme through lateral entry may apply after reaching the required year of study.

How to apply for GATE 2027 through GOAPS

  1. Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in after the registration link is activated.
  2. Link your verified DigiLocker account and complete the registration process.
  3. Enter personal, address, academic and communication details.
  4. Select the primary paper and, if needed, an approved second paper.
  5. Choose exam cities from the same zone. Candidates can select up to six cities.
  6. Upload the photograph, signature and other required documents.
  7. Complete live facial photo verification using a laptop webcam or a mobile camera of at least 5 MP.
  8. Pay the application fee and submit the form.
  9. Download the confirmation page and payment receipt.

GOAPS will provide an enrolment ID after registration. Candidates must create a password of 8 to 15 characters and keep both login details safe. These details will be needed for form correction, admit card download, result access and other GATE activities.

DigiLocker instructions for GATE registration

DigiLocker will fetch details such as the candidate’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, address, profile picture and verified ID number. Before applying, check that these details are correct. If the name or date of birth does not match, update the details in DigiLocker before submitting the form.

Candidates must create a folder named GATE2027 without a space in the DigiLocker Drive section. General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates do not need to upload documents in this folder. SC and ST candidates must upload the category certificate. PwD candidates must upload the documents listed in the information brochure, with the file names given on the application portal.

GATE 2027 application fee

CategoryRegular fee per paperExtended fee per paper
Female, SC, ST and PwD candidatesINR 1,000INR 1,500
All other candidatesINR 2,000INR 2,500

The fee doubles when a candidate applies for two papers. PwD candidates can check the fee shown for their category on the portal before payment. Accepted payment methods include UPI, debit card, credit card, net banking and wallets. If money is deducted more than once, the extra amount is expected to return to the source account within 15 days.

Documents and photo requirements

  • Recent passport-size photograph, not older than three months
  • Scanned signature in JPG or JPEG format
  • Valid photo ID, such as Aadhaar, PAN card, voter ID or passport
  • Category certificate for SC or ST candidates, where applicable
  • PwD, UDID or dyslexia certificate, where applicable

The photograph should have a clear white background and show the full face. Do not wear a cap or dark glasses. The signature must be made by the candidate in black or dark blue ink. A blurry photo, an old photo or a signature that does not match may lead to verification problems. Even your scanner deserves a little attention here.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing the wrong paper code or an invalid two-paper combination
  • Entering an incorrect year of passing, roll number or college name
  • Selecting an exam city that is hard to reach
  • Uploading an invalid or unclear certificate
  • Ignoring a name or date of birth mismatch in DigiLocker
  • Closing the payment page without checking the transaction status
  • Waiting until the final hours to submit the form

Applying soon after the form opens can reduce pressure, help you get a preferred exam city and give you time to fix errors. Keep your documents, academic details, payment method and DigiLocker login ready while waiting for the revised GATE 2027 registration date.
