Understanding the Marking Scheme
Your score depends on a clear marking system. For every correct answer, you get one mark. But here is the catch: wrong answers cost you marks too.
The board deducts one-third of a mark for each wrong answer. Your final score is calculated by taking your correct answers and subtracting the penalty for wrong ones. This means random guessing does not help much.
The exam had 100 questions spread across four sections: General Science, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness and Current Affairs. You had 90 minutes to complete the test (120 minutes if you are a PwBD candidate with a scribe).
What Are the Cut Off Marks
Cut off marks are the minimum scores you need to qualify for the next round. These marks vary by category. The general category (UR) requires 40% marks to qualify. The same applies to the EWS category.
For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, and ST categories, the minimum qualifying percentage is 30%. Meeting the cut off does not guarantee selection. It only makes you eligible for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
Cut off marks change based on several factors. The number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the exam, and the total number of candidates all play a role. When more people apply for fewer posts, the cut off usually goes up.
The Normalisation Process

The board released this recruitment for CEN No. 08/2024. Separately, another notification (CEN No. 09/2025) came out on January 30 for 22,195 vacancies. That exam date is expected soon.
