Odisha Police Recruitment Update: CPSE Exam and Constable Hiring

Thousands of police job aspirants in Odisha are waiting for clarity on two recruitment processes: the Combined Police Service Examination, or CPSE, and new constable-level hiring. The Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission, or OUSSSC, has now shared an update on both.

In a statement issued on 5 September 2026, the commission said it has started the recruitment process for constable-level posts under Odisha Police and other departments. It said a detailed advertisement will be released soon.

Constable recruitment process has started

The OUSSSC was set up after an earlier police recruitment process was cancelled. The new body will handle recruitment for police and other uniformed services in the state.

The commission said it has begun work on hiring constables and other candidates at the same level. However, it has not yet shared the number of vacancies, eligibility rules, age limit, exam pattern or application dates.

Candidates should wait for the official advertisement before applying or preparing documents. The notice is expected to include key details such as:

• Number of available posts
• Educational qualifications
• Age limit and relaxation rules
• Application fee and registration dates
• Written exam and physical test details
• Document requirements

Applicants should avoid relying on posts shared through social media groups. A recruitment rumour can travel faster than a police jeep, but it may not carry the right information.

Fresh CPSE exam is also being prepared

The OUSSSC also said it is taking steps to speed up the Combined Police Services Examination, known as CPSE-2024. Applications for this examination have already been received.

The examination process was affected by a paper leak case in 2025. The test was cancelled, and the Central Bureau of Investigation is examining the alleged scam. The examination was cancelled for the third time before the case was handed over to the CBI, according to the report.

The commission has not announced a fresh exam date yet. It said that steps are being taken on priority and that important updates will be shared through authorised channels and its official website. The website is expected to go live soon.

Until the commission issues a formal notice, candidates should not treat any proposed date as final. They should keep their application details, identity documents, certificates and photographs ready. They can also revise the syllabus and check their physical fitness, since police recruitment may include written, physical and medical stages.

Why the delay has become a political issue

Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik criticised the delay in holding the CPSE exam again. He said thousands of young applicants remain uncertain because of the paper leak and the long wait for a new examination.

Patnaik also questioned the state government’s claim over the recent appointment of 336 police sub-inspectors. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the convocation ceremony of the 13th batch of sub-inspectors on 4 September.

Patnaik said the recruitment of these officers began in 2021 under the previous BJD government. The officers have completed two years of training and have joined the Odisha Police. He also noted that no fresh recruitment for the sub-inspector post has taken place since then.

While wishing the new officers well, Patnaik urged them to serve people and help strengthen the justice system. He also asked the government to issue a new notification and conduct the CPSE without further delay.

What candidates should do now

Candidates can use this waiting period in a useful way. They should follow the OUSSSC website and official government notices for updates. They should also keep checking the official recruitment notice for changes in the exam process.

The CBI inquiry into the paper leak will continue alongside the recruitment work. The OUSSSC has said it wants to move the process forward while protecting the interests of candidates and the fairness of the examinations.
