NEET UG 2026 Result Declared: 11.21 Lakh Students Qualify

The wait is finally over. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the NEET-UG 2026 result on Thursday, and the numbers tell quite a story. Nearly 20 lakh students sat for this exam, and now over 11 lakh of them have a real shot at a medical seat.

The Big Picture

This year's NEET-UG exam took place across 5,440 centres in 551 cities, both in India and abroad. Out of the roughly 20 lakh students who appeared, 11.21 lakh have qualified for admission to medical, dental, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses. That's more than half the total number of test takers, which is a solid pass rate for an exam known for its tough competition.

The exam was conducted in 13 languages, and students from all 36 states and union territories took part. So whether someone wrote the paper in Hindi, Tamil, or Bengali, everyone competed on the same playing field.

Girls Are Leading the Pack

Here's a stat worth celebrating: more than 58% of the qualified candidates are girls. This isn't just a one-off number either. It reflects a pattern we keep seeing year after year in NEET results. Medicine continues to attract young women in large numbers, and this year they've outperformed their male counterparts by a clear margin.

The Toppers Are Impressively Young

Let's talk about the real high scorers. A total of 138 candidates scored above 690 out of 720 marks, which is no small feat given how competitive this exam is. What's interesting is that over 93% of these top scorers were attempting NEET for the first time. No repeat attempts, no second chances needed. They nailed it on their first try.

Even more striking is the age factor. About 99% of these top rankers fall between 17 and 19 years old. These are students who are barely out of school, already outscoring lakhs of other aspirants.

The 138 top rankers come from 66 different cities across the country, which shows that talent isn't limited to big metros. Small towns and cities are producing serious NEET scorers too.

State Toppers Push Past 700 Marks

Among the elite group of high scorers, 17 state toppers from 8 states crossed the 700-mark threshold. These states are Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. That's a fairly wide geographical spread, covering the north, west, and south of the country.

If we widen the lens a bit, toppers from 26 states managed to score above 690 marks. So while the very top scores are concentrated in a handful of states, strong performances are visible almost everywhere.

Uttar Pradesh Tops the Qualifier Count

When it comes to sheer numbers, Uttar Pradesh leads with over 1.7 lakh qualified candidates, the highest from any state. On the other end of the scale, Lakshadweep recorded just 43 qualifiers, the lowest count among all states and union territories. This gap makes sense given the difference in population and the number of students who actually appeared from each region.

What Comes Next for Qualified Students

For the 11.21 lakh students who've made it through, the next big step is the counseling process. This is where seats get allocated based on rank, category, and preferences filled during the counseling rounds. It's a good idea to keep all documents ready, including scorecards, category certificates, and identity proofs, since counseling timelines tend to move quickly once they start.

Students should also keep an eye on official NTA and Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) notifications for exact counseling dates, seat matrix updates, and any changes in the process. Missing a deadline in this process can cost a seat, so staying updated is important.
