NEET UG 2026 OMR Sheets Released: What Every Candidate Should Do Next

The wait is almost over for NEET UG 2026 aspirants. The National Testing Agency has released the scanned OMR sheets for candidates who took the re-examination. This comes right after the provisional answer keys, and it means the result is one big step closer.

If you appeared for the re-NEET exam, this is the moment to check your response sheet carefully. Grab a cup of chai, open your laptop, and let's walk through what you need to know.

How to Check Your OMR Sheet

Checking your OMR sheet is simple. Log in to the candidate portal at neet.nta.nic.in using your application number and date of birth. Your recorded responses will show up on the screen. Compare them with what you actually marked on exam day.

Found a mismatch? You are not stuck with it. NTA allows candidates to submit an online challenge through the official website. Keep in mind that challenges are accepted only for the recorded OMR responses at this stage, not for the answer key itself.

What Happens After the Objection Window Closes

Once the objection window shuts, NTA will review every challenge and prepare the final answer key. This final key becomes the basis for calculating everyone's score. No more objections will be entertained after this.

NTA is expected to declare the NEET UG 2026 result by July 20 for over 20 lakh MBBS aspirants. That is not too far away, so keep your application number and password handy.

A Quick Recap of the Re-Exam Timeline

  • Re-NEET exam conducted: June 21
  • Provisional answer key released: June 25
  • Objection window against provisional key: till June 28
  • OMR sheets released: recently, with objections open now
  • Expected result date: by July 20

Over 20 lakh candidates sat for this re-examination across centres in India and abroad. The paper followed the same pattern as before: 180 questions worth 720 marks, four marks for every correct answer, one mark deducted for every wrong answer, and no marks lost for questions left unattempted.

Don't Trust Unofficial Answer Keys

With so many websites and social media pages claiming to have the "real" answer key, it is tempting to check your score early. Resist that urge. Only the answer key and scorecard released by NTA count for admissions. Everything else is guesswork dressed up as information.

Fee Refund Deadline

If you are eligible for a fee refund related to NEET 2026, NTA has extended the deadline to submit your bank account details till July 14. Don't let this slip past you, since missing it could mean missing your refund.

After the Result: What Comes Next

Clearing NEET UG only opens the door to counselling. It does not guarantee a seat. Last year, over 12 lakh candidates qualified, but admission depended heavily on counselling cut-offs and seat availability in each state and category.

Once results are out, the Medical Counselling Committee and state authorities will release their own counselling schedules. You will need to register, fill in your choices, and wait for seat allotment. Sounds like a lot of steps, and it is, so start preparing early.

Your scorecard will show your marks, percentile, All India Rank, qualifying status, category rank, and category-wise qualifying percentile. Download multiple copies once it is out. You will need it during AIQ counselling, state counselling, document verification, and college reporting. Trust us, having a spare copy saves a lot of last-minute panic.

Big Changes Coming for NEET from Next Year

Here is something worth knowing if you have younger siblings or friends planning to take NEET later. From next year, the exam will move from pen-and-paper to a computer-based format. It will be conducted across five to six days at around 1,000 centres in 500 cities, mostly at government institutions like Kendriya Vidyalayas, accommodating around 5 lakh candidates each day.

The government is also planning a complete overhaul of NTA itself, covering its organisation, infrastructure, technology, and processes. Sources say the changes are expected to be completed before October. There is also a push in Parliament to give NTA statutory status, which would mean stronger legal backing and more independence to manage exams of this scale.

Category-Wise Cut-Offs from Last Year

While this year's cut-offs are still awaited, here is what last year looked like for reference:

  • General Category (UR/EWS): 686-144
  • OBC PwD, SC PwD and ST PwD category: 126-113
  • OBC, SC, ST category: 143-113

Remember, the qualifying cut-off only gets you into counselling. The actual admission cut-off depends on your state, chosen college, category, and how many seats are available in each round.

Steps to Download Your Result Once It's Out

  1. Visit neet.nta.nic.in
  2. Click on the "NEET-UG 2026 Result" link under "Candidate Activity"
  3. Enter your application number, password or date of birth, and security pin
  4. Your result PDF will appear on screen
  5. Download it and take a printout

Keep this printout safe until your entire admission process is complete. You never know when someone at a counselling desk will ask for it again.
