The clock is ticking for NEET UG 2026. If you plan to sit for this medical entrance exam and have not applied yet, you need to act fast. The application deadline is March 8, 2026. That gives you just one more day to complete your form at neet.nta.nic.in.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will allow corrections to your application form between March 10 and March 12. Details about exam cities and admit cards will be announced later. The exam itself is scheduled for May 3, 2026.
What NEET UG Opens For You
NEET UG is your gateway to multiple medical courses across India. This single exam gets you into MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, BSc Nursing, and BVSc & AH programs. Starting this year, physiotherapy courses will also accept NEET UG scores for admission.
The numbers are worth noting. According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), India currently has 824 medical colleges offering 129,603 MBBS seats. Out of these, 450 are government institutions with 63,160 seats, while 374 private colleges offer 66,443 seats.
Four Critical Changes This Year
The application process for NEET UG 2026 is different from previous years. NTA has introduced several important changes that affect how you apply. Missing these details could cause problems with your application.
1. Real-Time Live Photo is Now Mandatory
Forget uploading an old passport photo. That method no longer works. You must now capture a live photo using your webcam or mobile camera while filling the form. Think of it as a selfie with strict rules.
Keep these points in mind when taking your photo. Remove your cap, regular glasses, and sunglasses before clicking. Your face must cover at least 80 percent of the frame. Make sure there are no shadows, masks, or filters on your face. The photo needs to be clear and recent.
2. Aadhaar-Based eKYC is Compulsory
Your Aadhaar card plays a bigger role this year. NTA has made Aadhaar-based eKYC mandatory for all applicants. This means your Aadhaar-linked mobile number must be active and working.
Check your Aadhaar-linked mobile number before you start the application. The number needs a good network connection because the registration process uses OTP verification. If your linked number is not active, get it updated before attempting to apply.
3. No Random Exam Center Selection
You cannot pick any city you like for your exam center anymore. The new rules tie your exam center to your permanent or current address. NTA will allot the center based on the address you provide in your application.
This change makes accuracy critical. If you enter a wrong address, your application could be cancelled. Double check your address details before submitting the form.
4. Physiotherapy Joins NEET UG
Students interested in physiotherapy have a new path this year. All physiotherapy courses across the country will now accept admissions through NEET UG scores. This expands your options if you are considering allied medical fields.
How to Apply Before Time Runs Out
Visit neet.nta.nic.in and start your application right away if you have not done so. Keep your Aadhaar card handy along with your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Make sure your phone camera or laptop webcam works properly for the live photo.
Have your educational documents ready for reference. You will need details from your Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets. Keep your category certificate accessible if you belong to a reserved category.
The application fee varies by category. General and OBC candidates pay more than SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Check the official notification for exact amounts.
What Happens After You Apply
Once you submit your form, save the confirmation page. Print it out or store a digital copy safely. You will need this reference during the correction window from March 10 to 12.
Watch the official NEET website for updates about exam cities. NTA typically announces these details a few weeks before the exam. Your admit card will become available for download closer to the exam date.
Start your exam preparation in parallel. NEET UG tests you on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The paper has 200 questions, and you need to attempt 180 of them. Each correct answer gets you four marks, while each wrong answer deducts one mark.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Many students rush through the application and make errors that cost them later. Take your time with each section of the form. Verify your name spelling matches your Class 10 certificate exactly. Any mismatch creates problems during document verification.
Upload documents in the correct format and size. The portal rejects files that do not meet specifications. This wastes time when you are racing against the deadline.
Do not wait until the last minute to apply. Technical issues happen, especially when thousands of students try to access the portal simultaneously. Starting early gives you buffer time to handle any unexpected problems.
The new eKYC requirement catches many students off guard. If your Aadhaar-linked mobile number belongs to your parent and they are not nearby, you cannot complete the OTP verification. Plan ahead and ensure you have access to that phone.
Remember, March 8 is tomorrow. The portal will not extend the deadline for individual cases. Missing this date means waiting another year to apply for NEET UG. Set aside a quiet hour today, gather your documents, and complete your application before the window closes.
