The NEET-PG 2026 examination faced a major disruption in Jaipur on Sunday, August 30, after an internal power supply failure stopped the test at two centres. The issue affected 2,445 medical candidates at the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centres.
Several candidates left the examination centre during the disruption and staged a protest. They questioned the technical arrangements made for the computer-based test. For students who spent months preparing for NEET-PG, a power cut was more than an inconvenience. It interrupted an exam that can shape the next stage of their medical careers.
Re-examination scheduled for September 5
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, or NBEMS, has announced a re-examination for the affected candidates. The test will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 3 p.m. in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The re-examination is meant only for the candidates whose test could not be completed at the two affected centres. The centres were listed as iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura, Test Centre numbers 41682 and 41683.
Candidates should check official NBEMS notices for details about the venue, reporting time, admit card and documents required. They should also avoid relying on messages shared only through social media or informal student groups. In exam matters, one rumour can travel faster than a full power supply.
What caused the disruption?
According to the Health Ministry, the examination could not be completed because of an internal power supply problem at the test centres. The ministry said the issue was attributable to TCS Ltd., the agency conducting the examination.
The disruption was not reported across the country. NEET-PG 2026 was held at 1,111 examination centres in 339 cities across all 36 States and Union Territories.
Of the 2,73,096 candidates who were scheduled to take the exam, 2,65,980 appeared. The examination also involved 2,527 faculty members serving as Independent Appraisers. More than 700 senior faculty members, including deans, directors, medical superintendents and professors, worked as part of Flying Squads.
Three-member panel to investigate
NBEMS has formed a three-member committee to examine the failure. The panel includes:
- A senior official from the Government of Rajasthan
- A Joint Secretary-level officer from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
- A senior engineering official from the Central Electricity Authority
The panel will look into the events that led to the power failure. It will also examine the technical arrangements at the centres and identify the reasons for the interruption. The committee must submit its report within the set timeframe.
NBEMS promises a fair chance
NBEMS expressed regret for the trouble caused to the candidates. It said the re-examination would give the affected students a fair and equal chance to complete the examination.
This step matters because a computer-based medical entrance test depends on stable power, working systems and proper centre management. Even a short interruption can affect time, focus and performance. Candidates should not have to carry the burden of a centre-level technical failure into the next stage of their careers.
