The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MAH CET) is your gateway to some of the best MBA colleges in Maharashtra. If you're planning to pursue an MBA in this state, understanding this exam inside out becomes crucial for your admission journey.
The first attempt results for MAH CET 2026 are now available. Candidates can check their scores by logging into their CET account. The second attempt is already completed, and the final results for both attempts will be declared together by the second week of June.
Understanding MAH CET
MAH CET is a state level exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra. The exam opens doors to MBA, MMS, and PGDM courses across various institutes in Maharashtra.
The exam accepts scores from all Government of Maharashtra Management Education Institutes, University Departments of Management Education, University Managed Management Education Institutes, and all Un-Aided Management Education Institutes covered under the Act.
While the exam primarily targets domicile candidates, students from outside Maharashtra can also appear under the All India category. Here's something interesting: if you're an outside candidate with scores from CAT, GMAT, CMAT, MAT, XAT, or ATMA, you can directly participate in the MAH CET counselling process without taking the MAH CET exam.

Key Changes in MAH CET 2026
This year brings some notable changes you should know about:
The exam fee increased from INR 1,200 to INR 1,500 for general category candidates. For reserved category students, the fee moved from INR 1,000 to INR 1,300.
The biggest change: MAH CET 2026 is being held twice. You can choose to appear once or twice. If you attempt both, your best score will be considered for admission. You need to pay the fee separately for each attempt.
APAAR and Aadhaar identification has become mandatory for MAH CET registration 2026. A city intimation slip will be released so you can check your test city beforehand.
MAH CET Exam Pattern You Need to Know
The exam pattern remains unchanged from last year, except for the number of exam phases. Here's what you face:
The exam is a Computer Based Test conducted in English. You get 150 minutes or 2.5 hours to complete it.
The paper has four sections:
- Logical Reasoning: 75 questions for 75 marks
- Abstract Reasoning: 25 questions for 25 marks
- Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions for 50 marks
- Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension: 50 questions for 50 marks
Total questions: 200. Total marks: 200. Each correct answer gives you one mark. The good news? No negative marking for wrong answers.
Section Wise Syllabus Breakdown
Understanding the syllabus helps you plan your preparation better.
For Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, expect Reading Comprehension passages, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Parajumbles, Antonyms, Grammar, and Vocabulary questions.
Logical Reasoning & Abstract Reasoning covers Coding, Symbol-based Comparison, Venn Diagrams, Blood Relations, Linear & Circular Arrangement, and Series Completion.
Quantitative Aptitude includes Algebra, Probability, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Mensuration, Time & Work, and Data Interpretation.
Understanding MAH CET Cutoffs
Cutoffs vary by college and change each year based on various factors. Top colleges like JBIMS Mumbai and SIMSREE Mumbai had cutoffs of 99.99 and 99.97 percentile respectively in 2025.
Mid-tier colleges accept scores ranging from 95 to 99 percentile. Even if you score between 70 to 90 percentile, you still have chances at decent colleges in Maharashtra.
The cutoffs are released during the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) rounds. There are typically four rounds of counselling where colleges announce their cutoff percentiles.
Preparing for MAH CET: A Practical Approach
You can prepare for MAH CET in 3-4 months, but this requires dedicated effort of 8-9 hours daily.
Start with understanding the syllabus completely. MAH CET is a reasoning heavy exam, so you need to allocate extra time for Logical Reasoning practice.
The exam pattern can change frequently, which means you need to focus on building speed and accuracy across all four sections. Don't just rely on your strengths. Work on your weak areas too.
Previous years' question papers are gold. They show you the exact pattern and difficulty level. Mock tests help you build exam temperament. Take at least 20-25 full length mocks before the actual exam.
For Logical Reasoning, practice is everything. Solve as many questions as possible from different topics. For VARC, the Reading Comprehension passages are straightforward. Regular reading helps here. For Quants, get your concepts clear first, then move to practicing questions.
Who Can Apply for MAH CET?
You need a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Reserved category candidates need at least 45 per cent.
Final year graduation students or those awaiting results can also apply. However, their average score of two years should meet the requirement.
There's no upper age limit. Working professionals can appear for the exam too. You must have an Aadhaar card as it's now mandatory for filling the application form.
The MAH CET Counselling Process
After results, you enter the Centralised Admission Process (CAP). All MAH CET qualifiers can participate in CAP rounds for seat allotment.
CAP registration happens online on the Maharashtra CET website. You need to register before the deadline.
During registration, you mention your preferred colleges. If you get allotted a seat, you confirm acceptance online. Then you visit the college for final admission.
The CAP fee for MAH CET candidates is already included in their exam fee. Outside candidates applying through CAT, MAT, CMAT, XAT, or ATMA scores need to pay INR 1,200 (INR 1,000 for reserved categories).
Top Colleges Accepting MAH CET Scores
MAH CET opens doors to over 648 institutes in Maharashtra. Some top names include JBIMS Mumbai, SIMSREE Mumbai, PUMBA Pune, Prin. LN Welingkar Institute, K J Somaiya Institute of Management, and Xavier Institute of Management & Research.
Each college has its own cutoff percentile, fee structure, and placement record. Research thoroughly before filling your preference list during counselling.
Answer Keys and Score Calculation
The provisional answer key for the second attempt was released on May 19 along with candidate responses. The objection window remained open from May 19 to May 21.
The final answer key for the second attempt came out on May 29. The examination body accepted 6 objections: 1 in Abstract Reasoning, 1 in Quantitative Aptitude, and 4 in Logical Reasoning.
You can use the answer key to calculate your raw score. Add 1 mark for each correct response as per the official key and 0 for incorrect responses. The grand total gives you your raw score out of 200.
Important Documents Required
For the application form, you need to upload your Aadhaar card, a passport size photo, and your signature.
During counselling, you'll need additional documents like your mark sheets, degree certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and other relevant documents as specified by the examination body.
What Makes MAH CET Different
MAH CET focuses heavily on Logical Reasoning. This section alone carries 75 marks out of 200. If you're good at reasoning, you have a significant advantage.
The exam is relatively easier compared to CAT or XAT. This doesn't mean you can take it lightly. Competition is fierce, and cutoffs for top colleges touch 99.99 percentile.
The two attempt system introduced in 2026 gives you a second chance if you don't perform well in the first attempt. This is a relief for many students who might have a bad day during the exam.
Another unique aspect: the exam is completely in English. There's no Hindi or Marathi option. Make sure your English reading speed is good.
Tips for Exam Day
Reach your exam centre as per the reporting time mentioned on your admit card. Carry two printouts of your admit card and a valid photo ID.
The morning session starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 11:30 AM. The afternoon session runs from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Last entry is permitted only till 30 minutes after the reporting time.
You can skip questions if you want. Since there's no negative marking, attempt all questions even if you're guessing. Never leave a question unanswered.
Time management becomes crucial. You have 150 minutes for 200 questions. That's about 45 seconds per question. Some questions take 10 seconds, others might take 2 minutes. Balance your time wisely.
After the Exam
Once you've written the exam and received your score, the next step is CAP counselling. Don't relax just yet. Research colleges thoroughly, understand their cutoffs, check their placement records, and prepare your preference list carefully.
The CAP process moves quickly. Stay alert for announcements. Check your email and the official website regularly. Missing a deadline could cost you a seat at your preferred college.
If you get a seat in the first round but it's not your preferred college, you can participate in subsequent rounds while holding that seat. However, if you get a better college in the next round, your previous seat gets cancelled automatically.
More than 70,000 candidates register for MAH CET every year. The competition is real, but so are the opportunities. With proper preparation and strategy, you can secure admission to a good MBA college in Maharashtra.
