Class 1 Admission Details
Admission to Class 1 in Kendriya Vidyalayas follows an online lottery system and priority category system. There is no written test for Class 1 admission. Selection happens based on the priority categories and, if needed, through a lottery system within each category.
Class 2 to 8 Admission Process
Good news for parents: KV does not conduct entrance tests for Classes 2 to 8. Admissions are based on the priority category system. If applications exceed the number of seats, a lottery system is followed within each category. From Class 6 onwards, there is also a girl child quota.
Class 9 Admission Process
For Class 9, KVS conducts an entrance test. The exam covers Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science. Here are the key details:
- Exam duration: 3 hours
- Marks per subject: 20
- Passing requirement: 33% aggregate (25% for SC/ST/PH category students)
- Merit list prepared separately for each priority category
Class 11 Admission Guidelines
Admission to Class 11 in Science, Commerce, and Arts streams happens on a merit basis. The allocation depends on marks obtained in Class 10 board exams and seat availability. There is no age limit for Class 11 admission.
Seat Reservation in KVS
KVS provides reservation for various categories of students. Here's the breakdown:
| Category | Reserved Seats |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7.5% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) | 27% |
| Physically Handicapped (PH) | 3% |
Priority Order for Admission
KVS follows a priority system for admissions. Understanding this helps you gauge your chances:
- Children of Central Government employees and ex-servicemen
- Children of employees of Government of India autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings, or higher education institutions
- Children of State Government employees
- Children of employees of autonomous bodies/public sector undertakings of respective state governments
- Children from any other category and foreign nationals
Within these categories, priority is given based on the number of transfers the parent has had in the last 7 years.
What Happens After Form Submission
After you submit the form, keep an eye on the KVS website for updates. The school will publish provisional selection lists based on the priority system and lottery (if needed). If your child's name appears on the list, you need to complete the admission formalities within the specified time.
If seats remain vacant, the school will release additional lists. Last year, KVS reopened admissions until July 15 for remaining vacant seats.
Remember to check the official KVS website regularly for updates and notifications. The admission process can seem complex at first, but following these guidelines will make it smoother for you and your child.
