Parents waiting for Kendriya Vidyalaya admissions can now breathe easy. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has released the admission schedule for the academic year 2026-27. The registration window opens on March 20, 2026, and you have until April 2 to submit your application.
This schedule covers admissions for Balvatika-1, Balvatika-3, and Class 1. If you have a child ready to start their school journey, this is the information you need.
When Does Registration Start?
The online registration portal will open at 10:00 AM on March 20, 2026. KVS shared this information through an official post on X (formerly Twitter). The advertisement for admissions was released in the third week of March, marking the start of the process.
You need to complete your application by April 2, 2026. This gives you approximately two weeks to gather documents and fill out the form. Make sure you don't wait until the last day, as technical issues can happen.
Understanding the List Release Dates
After the registration window closes, KVS will release provisional lists in phases. Here's what you need to know:
The first provisional list for Balvatika-1, 2, and 3 will come out on April 8, 2026. For Class 1, the list will be published on April 9, 2026.
If seats remain vacant after the first list, a second list will be released on April 16, 2026. The third list, if needed, will follow on April 21, 2026.
These lists will be available on the official KVS website, individual school notice boards, and social media platforms. Check all these channels to stay updated.
How the Admission Process Works
Once the provisional lists are out, the actual admission process begins in stages. KVS follows a priority system to ensure fair distribution of seats.
First, children selected under the Right to Education (RTE) quota get admission. Next, students from service priority categories (Category-1 and Category-2) are admitted. Finally, seats are filled based on reservation quotas.
This phased approach ensures that every eligible child gets a fair chance at admission.
What If You Miss Online Registration?
Life happens, and sometimes you might miss the online window. KVS has a backup plan for this situation.
If sufficient applications are not received online for RTE, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories, offline registration will be available from April 22 to April 26, 2026.
Admissions through this offline process will be completed between April 27 and April 30, 2026. However, it's better not to rely on this option and complete your registration during the main window.
Admissions for Other Classes
If your child is seeking admission to Balvatika-2, Class 2, or any other class (except Class 11), the process is different.
These admissions will happen offline based on seat availability. The registration period runs from April 2 to April 8, 2026. The list for these classes will be published on April 13, 2026, and admissions will take place between April 15 and April 20, 2026.
The final date for admission to all classes (except Class 11) is June 30, 2026. If seats remain vacant, special permission admissions can happen until July 31, 2026.
Special Process for Class 11
Class 11 admissions follow a different timeline because they depend on Class 10 board results.
Registration for Class 11 will begin within 10 days of the CBSE Class 10 results being declared. The list for KV students will be released within 20 days of the results.
Students from other schools can also apply, but their admission will depend on seat availability after KV students are accommodated.
Age Criteria You Should Know
While the official notification doesn't specify age criteria in this schedule, KVS typically follows standard age requirements. For Balvatika (pre-primary), children are usually admitted based on specific age brackets. For Class 1, the child should typically be at least 6 years old as of March 31 of the admission year.
Check the detailed admission guidelines on the official KVS website to confirm the exact age requirements for your child's category.
Documents You'll Need
Though the schedule announcement doesn't list specific documents, standard KV admissions typically require:
- Birth certificate of the child
- Transfer certificate (for classes other than entry level)
- Service certificate of parent (if applicable for priority category)
- Caste certificate (if claiming reservation)
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Address proof
Keep these documents ready in digital format for online submission.
Important Points to Remember
Mark these dates in your calendar and set reminders. Missing the registration deadline means waiting for the offline window or the next academic year.
The admission process is competitive, particularly in urban areas where demand exceeds supply. Complete your application early and double-check all information before submission.
If you're applying under a priority category or reservation quota, ensure all supporting documents are valid and clearly scanned. Any discrepancy can lead to rejection of your application.
Keep checking the official KVS website regularly. Schools sometimes release additional information or clarifications after the initial announcement.
Where to Apply
The official KVS online admission portal will be active from March 20. Visit kvsonlineadmission.kvs.gov.in to access the registration form. This is the only official portal for online applications.
Be cautious of fake websites or third-party agents claiming to help with admissions. KVS doesn't charge any fee for the application process, and you don't need any agent to apply.
Some parents feel anxious about school admissions, and that's natural. The KV admission process is transparent and merit-based. If you follow the guidelines and submit your application on time with correct information, you've done your part.
The system is designed to accommodate as many eligible students as possible. Even if your child doesn't get in through the first list, the subsequent lists and offline process provide additional opportunities.
Start preparing your documents now. Create a checklist of everything you need. When March 20 arrives, you'll be ready to complete the application without stress.
