JoSAA 2026 Round 2 Allotment Result and Cutoff: How to Check Seat Allocation for IIT, NIT, IIIT

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has released the round 2 allotment today, June 30, at josaa.nic.in. Students who received a seat need to complete online reporting by July 5. This includes paying the seat acceptance fee, confirming your seat choice, uploading documents, and responding to verification queries.

To check your seat allotment, you need your application number and password. The process takes just a few minutes once you log in to the official portal.

How to Check Your JoSAA Round 2 Seat Allotment

Follow these steps to view your allotted seat:

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website and click the seat allotment link
  2. Enter your JEE Main application number and password on the login page
  3. View your seat allotment result after successful login
  4. Check the allotted college and course carefully
  5. Save or download the page for future reference

Understanding JoSAA Opening and Closing Ranks

The opening rank shows where admission begins for a specific course and category. The closing rank indicates where admission ends. These cutoffs help you understand the competition level for different programmes.

To check opening and closing ranks:

  • Go to josaa.nic.in and navigate to the eservices tab
  • Click on the OR-CR 2026 link
  • Enter the round number, institute type, institute name, academic program, and seat category
  • Click submit to view the ranks

What to Do After Getting a Seat

Getting a seat is just the beginning. You need to make a smart choice based on your goals and the trends in rank movement. Here's what comes next.

Online Reporting Requirements

Candidates with seat allotments must complete these tasks between June 30 and July 5:

  • Pay the seat acceptance fee
  • Choose freeze, float, or slide option
  • Upload all required documents
  • Respond to any verification queries

The fee payment and document upload deadline is July 4. However, you have until July 5 to respond to queries from verification officers.

Freeze, Float, or Slide: Which Option Should You Choose?

This decision matters because it determines whether you stay in future rounds.

Freeze means you accept the seat completely. You will not participate in later rounds. Choose this when you are satisfied with both the college and the course.

Float means you accept the current seat but want to check for better options across all colleges in future rounds. If you get a higher preference later, your current seat gets replaced automatically.

Slide means you accept the seat but want a branch upgrade only within the same college. You won't be considered for other institutes.

You can change from float to slide or freeze in later rounds. You can also change from slide to freeze. But once you choose freeze, you cannot change it.

Documents You Need to Upload

Keep these documents ready in scanned format:

  • Class X mark sheet or birth certificate for date of birth proof
  • Class XII mark sheet and certificate
  • JEE Main or JEE Advanced admit card
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) if applicable
  • PwD certificate from competent authority if applicable
  • Crossed bank cheque copy or passbook image
  • Medical certificate
  • OCI certificate or PIO card if applicable
  • Passport or citizenship certificate if applicable

Make sure all documents are clear and readable. Any mismatch between uploaded certificates and application records can lead to seat cancellation.

Seat Acceptance Fee Details

When you get a seat for the first time, you must pay the seat acceptance fee during that round. Not paying means you reject the offer and cannot participate in any future JoSAA rounds.

For SC, ST, and PwD candidates across all categories, the fee is Rs 15,000. For all other candidates, the fee is Rs 30,000.

You can pay through debit card, credit card, UPI, net banking, or e-challan at State Bank of India branches.

Round 2 Cutoff Trends for Top Courses

Computer Science Engineering remains the most competitive course across IITs, NITs, and IIITs. The cutoffs show intense demand, with top IITs having closing ranks below 1000 for general category seats.

Civil Engineering at top IITs has seen an interesting shift this year. IIT Bombay's civil engineering admission started at rank 385 this year compared to 2666 last year. IIT Delhi saw a similar change, with the opening rank moving from 3030 to 179.

What If You Don't Get a Seat in Round 2?

If you don't receive a seat in round 2, you don't need to do anything. You automatically move to round 3 with your original choices. The system considers your preference list again in the next round.

Remember, you cannot modify your choices after the choice filling window closes. The choices you submitted earlier will be used for all remaining rounds.

Important Dates for Round 2

The seat allotment result is out on June 30. Online reporting for seat confirmation, fee payment, and document upload runs from June 30 to July 4. You have until July 5 to respond to any queries raised by verification officers.

Fee payment issues will be resolved by July 4. Make sure you complete all formalities well before the deadline to avoid missing out on your seat.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many students rush to choose freeze without analysing future possibilities. Look at the rank movement trends from previous years before making this decision.

Some candidates delay document upload and fee payment until the last day. This creates problems if you face technical issues or need to resolve queries. Complete these tasks as soon as possible after getting your seat.

Uploading unclear or incorrect documents is another common error. Verify that all certificates match your application details and are properly scanned before uploading.

Special Notes for PwD Candidates

PwD candidates without a valid UDID card must visit designated reporting centres for physical verification. For IIT admissions, you must complete this by the end of the round in which you receive a seat. Failure to do so results in seat cancellation.

Seat Allocation Process Explained

Seat allocation in IITs and IISc depends entirely on JEE Advanced ranks. For NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs (the NIT+ System), JEE Main ranks determine allocation.

The JEE Apex Board prepares ten rank lists for different papers and categories. JoSAA does not apply tie-breaking rules. If available seats are fewer than candidates with identical ranks, supernumerary seats are created so all candidates with the same rank get offers.

Number of Participating Institutes and Seats

JoSAA 2026 covers admissions to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 47 other government-funded technical institutes. The total number of seats is 67,323.

IITs offer 18,951 seats, NITs have 25,162 seats, IIITs provide 11,518 seats, and GFTIs offer 11,692 seats.

Responding to Verification Queries

Verification officers may raise queries about your uploaded documents. You must monitor the portal regularly and respond with valid documents within the deadline. Not resolving queries leads to seat cancellation and removes you from the entire JoSAA process.

Check your dashboard at least twice daily during the online reporting period to catch any queries early.

Final Thoughts on Making Your Choice

Your decision in round 2 should balance your current seat with realistic chances of upgrades in future rounds. Study the cutoff trends, understand how much ranks typically move between rounds, and then decide whether to freeze, float, or slide.

Most students benefit from choosing float or slide in early rounds unless they receive their top preference. This keeps options open while securing a confirmed seat.
