JoSAA 2026 Round 2 Allotment and Cutoff: How to Check Results and Complete Online Reporting

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) released the round 2 allotment on June 30 at josaa.nic.in. Students who received a seat must complete their online reporting by July 5. This includes paying the seat acceptance fee, confirming the seat, and uploading documents for verification.

Getting a seat through JoSAA is just the first step. What you do next determines whether you keep that seat, upgrade it, or lose it entirely.

How to Check Your JoSAA Round 2 Allotment

Follow these steps to view your seat allotment:

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website at josaa.nic.in
  2. Click on the seat allotment link
  3. Enter your JEE Main application number and password
  4. Check your allotted college and course
  5. Download and save the allotment letter for future reference

The allotment letter contains important details including your institute name, academic programme, allotted category, seat pool, quota, choice number, and rank.

Understanding JoSAA Opening and Closing Ranks

The opening rank shows where admission to a specific course and category begins. The closing rank marks where admission ends for that course and category.

To check these ranks:

  • Go to josaa.nic.in
  • Navigate to the eservices tab
  • Click on OR-CR 2026
  • Enter the round number, institute type, institute name, academic program, and category
  • Click submit to view the ranks

These cutoffs help you understand your chances in future rounds and decide whether to freeze, float, or slide.

What Do Freeze, Float, and Slide Mean?

After getting a seat, you must choose one of three options:

Freeze: You accept the seat completely. You will not participate in later rounds. Choose this only if you are happy with your allotted seat and do not want any changes.

Float: You accept the current seat but remain in the race for a better college and course from your preference list. If you get a better option in the next round, your current seat gets replaced automatically.

Slide: You accept the current seat but want only a branch upgrade within the same college. You will not be considered for seats in other institutes.

You can change your choice from float to slide or freeze in later rounds. However, once you freeze, you cannot change it.

Online Reporting: What You Must Do

Online reporting is mandatory. It includes four main tasks:

  1. Pay the seat acceptance fee (SAF)
  2. Choose your seat confirmation option (freeze, float, or slide)
  3. Upload required documents
  4. Respond to queries from verification officers

The online reporting period runs from June 30 to July 5. However, seat confirmation, fee payment, and document upload must be completed by July 4.

Seat Acceptance Fee Structure

For SC, ST, and PwD candidates: INR 15,000
For all other candidates: INR 30,000

You can pay through debit card, credit card, UPI, net banking, or e-challan at State Bank of India branches.

Documents Required for Verification

Keep these documents ready in scanned format:

  • Class X mark sheet or birth certificate for date of birth proof
  • Class XII mark sheet and certificate
  • JEE Main admit card
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) if applicable
  • PwD certificate if applicable
  • Medical certificate filled by a registered medical practitioner
  • Crossed bank cheque copy or passbook image
  • OCI/PIO card if applicable

Document mismatches can lead to seat cancellation. Ensure all details match across your certificates and application records.

What Happens If You Skip Fee Payment?

Not paying the fee means you reject the seat. This disqualifies you from all future JoSAA rounds. There are no second chances.

If you face payment issues, you have until July 4 to resolve them.

Important Dates for Round 2

Seat allotment result: June 30, 2026
Online reporting (seat confirmation, fee payment, document upload): June 30 to July 3, 2026
Resolution of fee payment issues: By July 4, 2026
Last date to respond to queries: July 5, 2026
Round 3 allotment: July 6, 2026

Strategic Choices After Round 2

Whether you received a seat or not, your next move should be based on rank movement trends.

Check the opening and closing ranks carefully. If your rank is close to the closing rank of your dream course, floating might help you get it in the next round. If you are happy with your current seat, freezing saves you the stress of waiting.

Students with low JEE Main ranks (above 1 lakh) can still explore colleges through JoSAA. Several NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs have seats in various branches for these ranks.

Total Seats Available

IITs: 18,160 seats
NITs: 24,525 seats
IIITs: 9,940 seats
Other GFTIs: 10,228 seats

The competition is intense, but thousands of seats remain available across rounds.

What If You Do Not Get a Seat in Round 2?

No action is needed. You automatically move to round 3 with your original choices. The choice filling process closed on June 11, and you cannot modify preferences now.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Do not wait until the last day to complete online reporting. Technical issues or document problems can take time to resolve.

Do not upload unclear or incorrect documents. Verification officers will raise queries, and unresolved queries lead to seat cancellation.

Do not select freeze if you want an upgrade. Once frozen, you cannot participate in future rounds.

Do not ignore queries from verification officers. Check your dashboard regularly and respond before the deadline.

Medical Certificate Requirement

All students must submit a medical certificate during document verification. This applies to all categories. The certificate must be filled and signed by a registered medical practitioner. The format is available in the JoSAA business rules document (Annexure 7, Page 99).

Factors That Affect Cutoffs

Several factors determine JoSAA cutoffs each year:

  • Popularity of the institute and branch
  • Difficulty level of JEE examinations
  • Total number of qualified candidates
  • Seat matrix and availability
  • Category reservation quotas

These factors explain why cutoffs fluctuate between rounds and years.

Special Rounds and Spot Allotment

JoSAA conducts multiple rounds. After the main rounds, CSAB conducts a special round to fill vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. However, IITs do not participate in spot rounds.

The special round requires fresh registration and choice filling based on remaining seats.

Checking Your Next Round Chances

Compare your rank with the closing ranks of your preferred courses. If the gap is small (within 500-1000 ranks), you have a good chance in the next round. If the gap is large, consider accepting your current seat by freezing.

Historical data shows that closing ranks can shift by hundreds or even thousands between rounds as students withdraw or upgrade.

The JoSAA process requires attention to detail and timely action. Missing deadlines or skipping steps can cost you your seat. Complete all formalities well before the deadline and keep checking your dashboard for updates.
