JEE Advanced 2027 Complete Guide: Latest Updates, IIT Admission, Best Coaching Institutes, Test Series & Preparation

Hello, future IITians! I'm Runal Naik from AcademyCheck. JEE Advanced is the entrance examination used for admission to participating IIT undergraduate programmes. For most Indian candidates, the route is Main qualification, separate Advanced registration, both papers and JoSAA counselling.

JEE Advanced 2027 latest update

The official 2027 schedule and information brochure are awaited on the JEE Advanced portal. This guide uses the latest published 2026 rules as a preparation baseline; the brochure for your attempt controls the final eligibility, dates and requirements.

Keep Advanced practice alongside Main preparation. Our JEE Main guide explains the first stage, board preparation and session planning.

Eligibility: five checks before registration

The current official eligibility criteria for Indian nationals and OCI/PIO(I) require all five conditions together:

  • Main performance: the current shortlist is the top 2,50,000 successful Paper 1 candidates across categories, with tied scores potentially increasing the total.

  • Age: check the specified birth-date cutoff and applicable SC/ST/PwD relaxation.

  • Attempts: the normal limit is two attempts in two consecutive years.

  • First Class 12 appearance: check the eligible first-appearance years, compulsory PCM subjects and any stated exception.

  • Earlier IIT admission: previous admission or seat acceptance can affect eligibility; the rules also identify specific exceptions.

Check your first board-appearance year, previous Advanced attempts and IIT admission history together. Foreign nationals and OCI/PIO(F) candidates have a separate official route.

Paper pattern: prepare for both papers

The current information brochure specifies computer-based testing. Both papers are compulsory and each includes Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Paper

Subjects

Duration

Paper 1

PCM

3 hours

Paper 2

PCM

3 hours

Read each section's marking instructions. Negative marking can apply, and the actual paper controls question types, partial credit and scoring. Do not assume Main's marking scheme or a fixed coaching mock's question count applies to Advanced.

For multi-answer questions, justify each selected statement. For numerical answers, check the input format, signs and units. Use the official practice tests to become comfortable with the screen, navigation and answer entry.

Syllabus: check the Advanced list separately

Use the official Advanced syllabus as your chapter checklist. Do not remove an Advanced topic solely because it is absent from your Main preparation list.

  • Physics: measurement and errors, mechanics, thermal physics, electricity and magnetism, waves, optics and modern physics.

  • Chemistry: physical, inorganic and organic chemistry, including the specifically listed practical and analytical topics.

  • Maths: sets and functions, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, probability, statistics and vectors.

A practical Main-to-Advanced preparation routine

  • Build the concept: explain the law, definition or reaction before applying a remembered formula.

  • Attempt independently: spend a focused period working through a manageable set before opening solutions.

  • Review the method: locate the first incorrect assumption or missing step, rather than copying the final answer.

  • Reattempt: solve the same problem later without help, then try a related unfamiliar problem.

  • Mix chapters: use timed sets to practise deciding which concepts are relevant.

Protect board preparation and Main accuracy. Revise Class 11 prerequisites; droppers should rebuild gaps from their previous attempt.

Choose a test series that improves your preparation

Start with the official previous-paper archive. Reserve some papers for timed attempts before reading solutions.

Check the target year, student stage and syllabus calendar. Distinguish chapter tests from complete Paper 1 plus Paper 2 simulations; ask whether the advertised total counts papers or test days.

  • Solutions: inspect whether they explain the reasoning and alternative approaches.

  • Analysis: look for subject and question-level feedback that helps choose your next task.

  • Practice conditions: practise both papers with the planned break.

  • Review time: schedule it before adding another mock. More tests do not help when the same errors repeat.

Our JEE mock-test comparison helps you examine solutions, analysis and practice value.

Online coaching options: choose the support you need

Coaching is optional. Choose support for the gap in your current preparation. The following provider-described options serve different needs.

Physics Wallah: a Class 12 teaching pathway

  • Available support: PW's Lakshya JEE 2027 family describes live and recorded PCM classes, DPPs, previous questions, tests and revision resources for Main and Advanced.

  • Useful fit: a learner who needs an organised lesson sequence alongside school.

  • Before joining: check the exact batch version, remaining lessons, access period and doubt support. Different variants can include different materials and test access.

Provider-published faculty examples:

  • Rajwant Singh - 11+ years - Physics.

  • Amit Mahajan - 24+ years - Chemistry.

  • Tarun Khandelwal - 16+ years - Mathematics.

Try PW's Class 11 Physics concepts and PYQs revision. This lengthy one-shot includes kinematics and friction; choose a weak topic and attempt its questions before the explanation. It is a revision resource, rather than a substitute for a paced first-learning course.

Use our PW JEE fee guide to compare plans. Check available videos and course details through Physics Wallah on AcademyCheck, and compare JEE courses and test series.

Motion Education: monitoring and guided practice

  • Available support: the Anushaasan JEE programme describes monitored live classes, recordings, printed material, mentoring and regular doubt classes.

  • Useful fit: a learner who needs help maintaining attendance, homework and test participation.

  • Before joining: request the actual Advanced practice and two-paper test calendar for your package, plus the assigned teachers and catch-up plan.

  • Nitin Viijay - 20+ years, as published by Motion - Physics; Founder and CEO.

Try his Energy, Power and Intensity subject lesson. The opening progresses from energy units to power as energy per second, then intensity as power per area. This roughly 23-minute topic explanation helps you test whether the distinctions make sense before applying them across chapters.

Check institute details and available preparation resources through Motion Education on AcademyCheck, and compare JEE courses and test series.

ALLEN Career Institute: testing alongside existing teaching

  • Available support: ALLEN describes Main + Advanced online series with worked solutions and reattempts, including Leader and other student-stage options.

  • Useful fit: a learner with adequate teaching who needs structured testing and review.

  • Before buying: verify the current 2027 planner and included paper pairs. A test-series purchase does not replace a full lecture course.

  • Anu Gupta - numeric tenure not stated in the linked lesson - Physics.

Try his JEE Advanced conductor-properties lesson on ALLEN JEE. The explanation connects stationary charges to zero field inside conducting material, then derives equal potential and perpendicular surface field lines. Use this focused revision lesson to test your reasoning before attempting conductor and cavity problems.

Check courses, facilities and available videos through ALLEN Career Institute on AcademyCheck, and compare JEE courses and test series.

Before enrolling: confirm your assigned batch teachers; public lessons do not establish that roster. For classrooms, also check travel, batch size and doubt access.

Results, board marks and IIT counselling

Rank-list qualification requires subject-wise and aggregate minimums. IIT allotment then depends on rank, category, choices, eligibility and available seats.

The current IIT admission criteria also require passing Class 12 with at least five subjects and either 75% aggregate, reduced to 65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates, or the category-wise board top 20 percentile. Check the specified subjects and improvement-exam rules.

  1. Register separately: complete Advanced registration and retain payment confirmation.

  2. Prepare documents: check identity, school records and applicable category/disability formats and validity.

  3. Attend both papers: follow the admit card, reporting and permitted-item instructions.

  4. Review the result: distinguish your qualifying status and rank from a college's closing rank.

  5. Complete JoSAA: register, order choices by genuine preference, and complete fees, document uploads and query responses within deadlines.

Use JoSAA for the current seat matrix and business rules. Compare closing ranks for the same programme, category, seat pool and round. Check the separate Architecture Aptitude Test for relevant IIT BArch programmes.
