GATE 2027 Preparation After Registration: Rectification Window, Syllabus & Study Plan
GATE 2027 preparation guide to a paper-specific study cycle, worked CS tasks, mocks and course scope, with a GO Classes example. New registration is closed; notified defects are due by 31 October and paid-change dates are TBA.

Hi, I’m Runal. Preparing for GATE 2027 can feel confusing when registration dates, paper selection, syllabus and mock-test choices are all moving together. This guide brings the preparation steps into one place. New GATE 2027 registration is closed. Applicants notified of a scrutiny defect should follow the current action box below; candidate-request changes are a separate process.
GATE 2027: what applicants should do now
As checked on 22 October 2026, new registration is closed. The official IIT Madras schedule separates scrutiny-defect rectification from candidate-request changes.
Notified scrutiny defects: rectify the submitted application from 14 to 31 October 2026, following the instructions in GOAPS and your notification.
Candidate-request data correction with a fee: dates are TBA. Check the official notice before attempting a change.
City allotment: 4 January 2027. Admit-card release is TBA.
Examinations: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027. Results are scheduled for 19 March 2027.
Open the official GOAPS login to check your submitted application. A defect notice and a request to change application data are different processes; neither reopens new registration. If the status is accepted, follow the portal’s instructions rather than making an unnecessary correction.
What to check first
Open the latest official notice and download the syllabus for your selected paper code.
Check your submitted application status, acknowledgement or payment confirmation and the permitted paper combination; new registration is closed.
Check the paper or papers recorded in your submitted application against the official combination list. For a later change, follow the announced candidate-request procedure; its dates are currently TBA. Do not create another enrolment ID.
Make a topic checklist and mark each unit as new, learning, practised or revision-ready.
Eligibility, paper choice and syllabus
The official eligibility criteria currently cover candidates studying in the third year or higher of an approved undergraduate degree and candidates who have completed an approved degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities, subject to the detailed table on the official website.
GATE 2027 has 30 test papers. A candidate may appear for one paper or up to two papers, subject to the permitted combinations. The official paper and syllabus page also notes that the syllabi have been revised and includes Robotics and Automation (RA) in the paper list. Download the current syllabus for your exact code rather than preparing from an old coaching handout.
Current question-paper pattern
For the current GATE pattern, the test is a three-hour computer-based examination in English with MCQ, MSQ and NAT questions. A single paper has 65 questions for 100 marks, including 10 General Aptitude questions for 15 marks. In most regular papers, Engineering Mathematics carries 13 marks and the subject component carries 72 marks. The official pattern page lists a 15-mark General Aptitude and 85-mark subject split for specified papers such as AR, CY, DA, EY, GE, GG, MA, PH, RA, ST, XH and XL.
Questions carry one or two marks.
MCQs have negative marking: one-third for a one-mark question and two-thirds for a two-mark question.
There is no negative marking for MSQ or NAT questions, and MSQ questions do not have partial marking.
Read the official question-paper pattern once before designing your mock-test strategy. Your attempt order and guessing policy should match the question types you will actually face.
A practical GATE 2027 preparation plan
For each syllabus unit, make concept notes, attempt relevant previous questions, complete a timed set and review errors before increasing the workload. Keep General Aptitude in your weekly routine. Your technical subjects follow your own paper code.
Worked CS example: build a repeatable study cycle
The official CS syllabus supplies the topics below. The sequence, practice amounts and timings are editorial examples, not official study requirements or a promise of marks. Extend the method to every unit in your syllabus.
Logic and discrete mathematics: explain a logical implication and a relation using your own examples. Attempt a small set of relevant previous questions, then a 30-minute mixed set. Review whether errors came from interpreting the statement or applying the rule.
C programming and data structures: trace a recursive call and operations on a stack or queue before checking the answer. Follow with topic questions and a 40-minute set. Keep corrected traces beside the original errors.
Algorithms: hand-trace a search, sort or graph traversal and explain its time/space behaviour. Attempt previous questions, then a timed mixed set. Record whether the mistake was the chosen method, a missed condition or the execution.
Operating systems: work through a scheduling or memory-management example. Attempt relevant questions and a 45-minute set. Redo the weak question after correcting the concept or calculation.
Keep four outputs for every unit
A short concept sheet with the rules you can explain without looking.
Attempted previous questions with the reason for each wrong or guessed answer.
A timed-set record: attempted, correct, unanswered and time used.
A correction task and reattempt date, chosen from the errors you actually made.
Use the official paper pattern when planning mocks. For CS, the current 100-mark structure separates 15 marks of General Aptitude, 13 of Engineering Mathematics and 72 of subject questions. Your study-time split can change with your diagnostic; it is not prescribed by that marks split.
Mock tests and previous papers
Use previous GATE papers to understand the actual wording and difficulty, then add practice in stages:
Topic-wise sets: immediately after a syllabus unit, to check basic understanding.
Sectional tests: after a group of units, to practise switching between concepts.
Full-length mocks: in the final phase, under the official three-hour time limit and with the same attempt discipline you plan to use in the exam.
After every test, record score, accuracy, time spent, unanswered questions and the weak topics behind each mistake. A higher mock score is useful only when the review explains why it improved and what must change in the next attempt. Coaching predictions are not official GATE results, so use them as practice feedback rather than as a guarantee.
How to choose a GATE course or coaching support
Choose support after you know your paper code and weak areas. Compare the exact paper coverage, faculty access, doubt support, recorded-class validity, test frequency, solution quality, batch timing, fee, refund terms and the way results are reported. Ask for the batch details and deliverables in writing before paying. You can also use the AcademyCheck GATE complete guide to explore related preparation, syllabus and course-comparison information.
CS course example: GO Classes
GO Classes describes its CSE Complete Course as English pre-recorded teaching with live doubt/practice sessions and recorded replay. Its current course page says the GATE CS 2027 test series is purchased separately. This distinction matters if you already have lectures and mainly need testing. Compare the chosen access period and the time needed to finish the lessons before buying another full course.
Final application and study checklist
Check your submitted application status and acknowledgement; new registration is closed.
Confirm the paper code, eligibility details, photograph/signature requirements and payment confirmation.
Download the current syllabus and create a unit-wise tracker.
Schedule concept study, previous-paper practice, sectional tests, full-length mocks and weekly error-log review.
Follow any action requested on your submitted form, then check official city-allotment, admit-card and examination updates.
The most reliable GATE 2027 preparation plan starts with the official paper code, syllabus and dates, then turns each syllabus unit into a cycle of concepts, previous questions, timed practice and error review. Keep the official IIT Madras pages as your source for changes, and use coaching or mock-test support only when it matches your paper and gives you clear feedback.
