GATE 2027 Registration Deadline Extended: Dates, Eligibility and Application Steps

GATE 2027 registration is open for a few more days. IIT Madras has extended the last date to apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering to October 5, 2026. Candidates who miss the regular deadline can now submit the form by paying a late fee.
The application process is being managed through the GATE Online Application Processing System, or GOAPS. Candidates can visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in to complete the form. The regular registration deadline was September 27, 2026.

The GATE 2027 website has not listed October 12, 2026 as a registration deadline. Candidates should check the official website for any fresh update, since the schedule may change.
Who can apply for GATE 2027?
Students in the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree programme can apply. Candidates who have already completed an approved degree can also appear for the examination.
Eligible degrees include programmes in:
- Engineering and Technology
- Architecture
- Science
- Commerce
- Arts
- Humanities
There is no age limit for GATE 2027. Candidates can also appear for the examination more than once. So, an older degree holder is not left outside the exam hall just because the calendar has moved on.
How to complete the GATE 2027 application
Candidates should log in to the GOAPS portal and complete the form with care. The main steps are:
- Register with a valid and unique email address.
- Enter personal, contact and academic details.
- Select the GATE test paper.
- Choose the examination cities.
- Upload the required documents in the prescribed format.
- Pay the application fee online.
- Check all details before submitting the form.
- Download and save the final application form and payment receipt.
Indian nationals must use DigiLocker during the registration process. Candidates should keep their academic records, identity details, photograph and signature ready before starting the form. This can save time and reduce the risk of an incomplete application.
One paper or two papers
GATE 2027 allows candidates to apply for one paper or two papers. Those choosing two papers must select a permitted combination. Both papers must be included in the same application.
Candidates should check the approved paper combinations before making a selection. Choosing two papers without checking the rules may create a problem at the final submission stage. Each applicant must also use a separate email address for every application.
New GATE 2027 paper
GATE 2027 will offer 30 test papers. Robotics and Automation, with the paper code RA, has been added as a new paper. Candidates interested in this area should read the official syllabus and paper details before applying.
The examination will take place across six dates in February 2027. The dates are February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. The result is scheduled for March 19, 2027.
What candidates should check before submission
