New GATE 2027 paper and exam format

GATE 2027 will be held as a computer-based test (CBT). IIT Madras has added Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new test paper. The syllabus of some existing papers has also been revised.

The exam tests subject knowledge in areas such as engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce and arts. Before selecting a paper, read the official information brochure. It contains the paper-wise syllabus, eligibility rules and exam requirements. Choosing a paper based on a guess can lead to a very long study plan for a very short mistake.

Who can apply for GATE 2027?

There is no upper age limit for the exam. Students studying in the third year or a higher year of an eligible undergraduate degree can apply. Graduates from eligible programmes can also submit the form.

Eligible academic areas include:

  • Engineering and technology
  • Architecture
  • Science
  • Commerce
  • Arts

Eligibility can vary based on the degree and paper selected. Candidates should check the official brochure before completing the application.

Documents to keep ready

What happens after the exam?

The selection process includes the computer-based examination, result announcement and release of the GATE scorecard. Candidates can use their scores for postgraduate admission or apply for PSU recruitment, depending on the rules of the institution or organisation.

A valid GATE score does not guarantee admission, a scholarship or a job. Each institute and PSU may set its own conditions, cut-off marks and selection process. Read the official notice of the institute or organisation before applying.
