GATE 2027 Registration: Dates, Fees, DigiLocker and New Paper

GATE 2027 registration starts on August 27, 2026, at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. IIT Madras, the exam organising institute, has changed the registration process this year. Candidates must use DigiLocker to complete their applications.

The application window will remain open until September 27, 2026, without a late fee. Candidates who miss this date can apply until October 5 by paying the extended-period fee. Since some details will be taken from DigiLocker, setting up the account early can save time and prevent last-minute trouble.

What is new in GATE 2027?

The main change is the mandatory use of DigiLocker during registration. The GATE portal will fetch key details from the candidate’s DigiLocker account. These details include:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Mobile number
  • Email address
  • Profile photograph
  • Address
  • Verified identity card number

Candidates should create or update their DigiLocker account before starting the application. Check that the name and date of birth match the details in your identity documents. A small mismatch can turn into a large headache when the deadline is near.

IIT Madras has also added a new test paper called Robotics and Automation. GATE 2027 will offer 30 papers in total. Candidates should review the paper list and download the syllabus from the official website before selecting a paper.
