GATE 2027 Registration Dates, Documents and DigiLocker Rules

GATE 2027 registration has been postponed. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, which will organise the exam, is expected to announce the revised dates soon. The application link will be available on the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

The registration process was earlier set to begin on August 27. Since the new schedule is not out yet, candidates should keep checking the official website for updates. Avoid relying on messages shared in random groups. Exam dates have a habit of changing when you stop looking.

DigiLocker registration is required

Indian nationals must use DigiLocker during GATE 2027 registration. The system will fetch key details from the candidate’s DigiLocker account. These details may include:

• Full name
• Date of birth
• Mobile number
• Email address
• Profile photograph
• Address
• Verified identity card number

Candidates should check that their DigiLocker information is correct before starting the application. A mistake in the name or date of birth can create trouble later. If your records need an update, start that process before the registration window opens.

Documents to keep ready

Preparing the files in advance can save time and reduce errors. Candidates should keep clear digital copies of the documents that apply to them.

• Recent photograph as per the official specifications
• Signature in the required format
• Valid government photo identity document
• SC or ST category certificate, if applicable, in PDF format
• UDID card or PwD certificate, if applicable, in PDF format
• Dyslexic certificate, if applicable, in PDF format

Read the official brochure for file size, image dimensions, and format rules before uploading anything. A good scan should be clear, complete, and easy to read. Cropped certificates and dark photographs can lead to problems during verification.

Live photo will be captured during registration

GATE 2027 candidates will need to submit a live photograph while filling out the form. For this step, use a computer with a working webcam or a phone with a camera of at least 5 megapixels.

Choose a place with good light. Keep your face inside the frame and follow the instructions shown on the screen. Do not use a saved selfie unless the portal asks for one. The registration system wants a live image, not a photo from your school farewell album.

Carry the same ID to the exam centre

The identity document uploaded during registration must be carried in its original form on the day of the GATE 2027 exam. The document should match the details submitted in the application.

Do not upload one ID and plan to carry another. Keep the original document safe after registration. Also check that it is valid and that the photograph and personal details are easy to verify.

2. Confirm that your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email are correct.
3. Scan the required documents in advance.
4. Save files in the formats listed in the official instructions.
5. Check your webcam or phone camera before registration.

7. Use only the official GATE 2027 website for the application.

Once the dates are announced, read the full notice before starting the form. Note the opening date, closing date, correction window, fee details, and exam schedule. Save a copy of the submitted application and payment receipt for your records.

Why the GATE score matters

Students who qualify in GATE can use their scores when applying to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education. Several Public Sector Undertakings also use GATE scores in their recruitment process.
