GATE 2027 will take place on six days: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Each day will have a forenoon and an afternoon session, so plan your revision schedule around these dates.

What is GATE, Anyway?
GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It checks how well you understand your undergraduate subjects, whether that is Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities. This is the 45th edition of the exam, running since 1983. IISc and IITs conduct it together on behalf of the National Coordination Board, under the Ministry of Education.

Once you clear GATE, your score stays valid for three years from the date the results are announced. This gives you enough time to apply to programs or jobs without rushing into a decision right after the exam.

This year, the registration process carries an added layer of security. Candidates will register online through DigiLocker along with facial registration. This step aims to make the exam fair and reduce chances of impersonation. Keep your DigiLocker account ready and your face visible on camera when it is time to register. Sunglasses selfies will not work here.
