A quick guide to the Design for Bharat 2027 Open Challenge: 31 October deadline, eligibility, seven categories, team size and submission requirements.
Hi students—if you’re preparing a product idea for Design for Bharat 2027, MY Bharat currently lists 31 October 2026 as the submission date for the Open Challenge. This guide covers the Open Challenge only; the site lists a separate Graduation Project Challenge with different eligibility and submission requirements.
Who can enter?
You must be an Indian citizen aged 18–29 at the time of application.
You must be enrolled in a college, university or recognised academic institution when you apply.
You may enter individually or in a team of up to three, subject to the detailed competition criteria.
MY Bharat says participation is free.
Does your idea fit the Open Challenge?
MY Bharat describes this track as a challenge for tangible product-design solutions to real-world problems. It lists seven categories. If your idea is only a website, app or screen design, check the competition docket before preparing an entry; the page does not describe a standalone digital product as the focus of this challenge.
Choose one of the seven categories
Smart Agriculture and Agri-Tech: tools, equipment or systems for smallholder farmers.
Accessible Healthcare and Assistive Tech: affordable devices, diagnostics and tools for older people and persons with disabilities.
Sustainable Clean Energy and Mobility: green-energy, transport and off-grid solutions.
Rural Housing and Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: deployable products for low-income housing or disaster relief.
Waste-to-Wealth and Circular Economy: products or small machines that process, recycle or upcycle waste at community level.
Next-Gen Handicrafts and Artisanal Tooling: improved tools, production systems or sustainable packaging for artisans and self-help groups.
Next-Gen Civic Utilities and Disaster Resilience: safety gear and emergency products for municipal workers, communities and climate-disaster response.
What should you prepare?
Concept note: up to 500 words covering the idea, its users, function and potential impact.
Posters: up to seven JPG files at 300 DPI. MY Bharat suggests using the first for the concept, the second for the main visual, posters 3–5 for research and process, and posters 6–7 for supporting details.
Originality declaration: the page asks participants to confirm the work is original and consent to its display in competition-related exhibitions or publications.
Check each poster’s file size before uploading: the detailed technical section says up to 20 MB per poster, while the same page’s FAQ says a maximum of 7 MB. Follow the limit shown in the live upload flow or competition docket if it clarifies the conflict.
How and when do you submit?
Start from the official Design for Bharat page on MY Bharat and follow its current registration and submission instructions. The page’s FAQ refers to submission through a State/UT nodal institution, while its detailed Open Challenge section says to submit through the official portal. Check the route shown for your entry before the deadline.
The page currently lists 31 October 2026 as the Open Challenge submission date. MY Bharat lists State/UT results for 11–18 November 2026 and State-level ceremonies from 15 November to 7 December 2026. It lists online mentoring from 8 December 2026 to 7 January 2027, in-person mentoring on 9–10 January 2027, national judging on 10–11 January, and the national showcase and awards on 10–12 January 2027.
