CLAT 2027 registration has started. Get complete details on dates, eligibility, fees, documents and the step-by-step application process for law aspirants.
AC Team

If you dream of studying law at one of India's top National Law Universities, mark your calendar. The Consortium of NLUs opened CLAT 2027 registration on August 3, 2026, at 10 AM. The portal is live at consortiumofnlus.ac.in, and law aspirants across the country can now fill out their application forms.
Whether you are in Class 12 or already hold an LLB degree, there is a path for you here. Let's break down everything you need to know, without the legal jargon (ironic, we know).
Important Dates to Remember
CLAT does not wait for anyone, so keep these dates handy:
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration start date | August 3, 2026 |
| Registration start time | 10 AM |
| Last date to register | October 31, 2026 |
| CLAT 2027 exam date | December 6, 2026 |
The exam will run from 2 PM to 4 PM in offline mode. Yes, that means a pen and an OMR sheet, not a keyboard.
Who Can Apply for CLAT 2027?
The eligibility rules depend on the course you want:
- For the five-year Integrated LLB course, you need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent exam.
- General, OBC, and NRI candidates need at least 45% marks.
- SC and ST candidates need a minimum of 40% marks.
- Students appearing for their board exams in 2027 can also apply.
- For the LLM course, you need to hold an LLB degree from a recognised college.
Here is some good news for the late bloomers among us: there is no upper age limit. The Bar Council of India removed the age cap so that anyone, at any stage of life, can pursue law.
Documents You Need Before You Start
Keep these files ready on your device before you open the application form. Nothing kills momentum faster than hunting for a scanned certificate halfway through:
- A recent passport-size photograph
- A clear image of your signature
- Category certificate for SC, ST, or OBC candidates
- Domicile certificate if you are claiming a state quota seat
- Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
How to Apply for CLAT 2027
The process is fairly simple and takes only a few steps:
- Visit consortiumofnlus.ac.in
- Click on the CLAT 2027 tab
- Select 'New Registration' on the page
- Enter your name, email address, and mobile number
- Log in using the credentials you receive
- Fill in your personal and academic details
- Pay the application fee online
- Review your form carefully and submit it
Double check every field before you hit submit. The Consortium is strict about corrections, so a typo today can turn into a headache in October.
Application Fee
The fee structure stays simple:
- General, OBC, PwD, and NRI candidates pay INR 4,000.
- SC, ST, and BPL candidates pay INR 3,500.
Payment happens online, so keep a card or UPI method ready before you begin.
Exam Pattern at a Glance
The Consortium has confirmed there are no changes to the exam pattern or syllabus this year. Here is what the paper looks like:
- 120 multiple-choice questions in total
- 120 minutes to complete the paper
- One mark for every correct answer
- 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer
- No penalty for skipping a question
Section-wise, Legal Reasoning and General Knowledge carry the most weight with 28 to 32 questions each. English and Logical Reasoning follow with 22 to 26 questions each, while Quantitative Techniques rounds off the paper with 10 to 14 questions.
A Few Honest Tips
Fill your form early. Waiting until October 31 sounds dramatic, but it rarely works out well when servers get crowded and documents go missing at the last minute. If you are in your final year of Class 12 or LLB, you can still register and take the exam. Just remember your admission stays provisional until you show your final results during counselling.
CLAT is tough, and it is meant to be. It filters candidates for 26 out of 27 NLUs across India, so the competition is real. But the process itself, from registration to submission, does not have to be stressful if you plan ahead and keep your documents ready.
