Anthropology Optional
Anthropology as an optional subject in the UPSC Civil Services Exam covers the study of humans, their cultures, societies, and evolution. It is divided into two papers: Paper I focuses on the concepts of physical anthropology, human evolution, genetics, and the development of early human societies. It also includes archaeological and biological anthropology, along with the study of race and culture. Paper II deals with the socio-cultural aspects of anthropology, including tribal societies, cultural evolution, social structures, kinship, and the impact of modernization and globalization on indigenous cultures. It also covers the role of anthropology in understanding social problems and policy-making. Anthropology is considered a scoring subject due to its concise syllabus, clarity, and interlinking with other GS papers. Its interdisciplinary nature, combining both scientific and humanistic approaches, makes it attractive for aspirants with varied academic backgrounds.
GS Foundation Prelims Cum Mains
The General Studies (GS) Prelims is the first stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination and tests a candidate's knowledge on a wide range of subjects. It consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper I: This paper covers topics like current events, history, geography, economics, science and technology, environment, and general issues affecting society. It assesses a candidate's awareness of national and international events and their ability to understand and analyze complex socio-economic and political scenarios. General Studies Paper II (CSAT): This paper tests the candidate's aptitude, logical reasoning, quantitative skills, and comprehension abilities. It includes questions on English language comprehension, basic mathematics, and problem-solving techniques. The GS Prelims is designed to assess a candidate's general awareness, analytical skills, and decision-making ability. The marks obtained in GS Prelims are only used for shortlisting candidates for the Mains examination and do not count toward the final ranking.
