UGC NET Results Announced for 84 Subjects: Key Details for Candidates

The National Testing Agency has announced the UGC National Eligibility Test results for 84 subjects. More than 4,000 candidates have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship, giving many students a new path towards research and teaching in higher education.

The result update comes after a change in the exam schedule for candidates who took the English, Commerce and Sociology papers. The NTA ordered fresh exams for these three subjects after an expert committee found several errors in the question papers.

Why were fresh exams held?

The expert committee reviewed the question papers and found factual, typographical, translation and language-related mistakes. Such errors can affect how candidates understand and answer a question. In a competitive exam, even one unclear question can cause a lot of stress. Nobody wants a grammar puzzle when they are already solving a three-hour paper.

To protect the fairness of the process, the NTA decided to conduct the English, Commerce and Sociology exams again. Candidates who appeared for these papers were asked to take part in the re-examination.

UGC NET answer key and re-exam dates

The NTA released the UGC NET answer key on August 16, almost two months after the examination. On the same day, it issued a special notice about the three affected subjects.

The agency later announced that the English, Commerce and Sociology examinations would be held again in September. The re-examinations are scheduled for September 9 and 10. Candidates do not need to pay an extra fee to appear for the fresh examination.
