SBI PO Prelims 2026: Exam Day Guide and Shift Timings

Mark your calendars, because the SBI PO Prelims 2026 exam is almost here. The State Bank of India will hold this exam on August 1 and August 2, 2026, to fill 1,500 Probationary Officer posts across the country. If you have registered for this exam, here is everything you need to know before you step out on exam day.

When Is the Exam Happening?

The exam runs across two days and four shifts each day. That means SBI has scheduled eight shifts in total to accommodate the huge number of candidates. Before you head to your exam centre, open your admit card and check your shift, reporting time, and centre address carefully. A small mistake here can cost you your exam attempt, so double check everything at least a day in advance.

SBI PO Prelims 2026 Shift Timings

Here is the full shift schedule so you know exactly when to be where:

Shift Reporting Time Exam Time
Shift 1 8:00 AM 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Shift 2 10:30 AM 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Shift 3 1:00 PM 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Shift 4 3:30 PM 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Notice how the reporting time is always well before the actual exam starts. That gap is there for a reason. It gives the exam staff enough time to verify your documents, check your admit card, and seat you properly. Reaching late means you might miss your shot entirely, since SBI does not allow late entry under any circumstance.

Documents You Must Carry

Packing the right documents is just as important as knowing your shift timing. Keep these ready the night before, not the morning of the exam:

  • A printed copy of your SBI PO Prelims 2026 admit card
  • An original valid photo ID such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving Licence
  • Recent passport-size photographs

A photocopy of your ID will not work here. The invigilators need to see the original, so leave the Xerox copies at home this time.

Exam Day Instructions You Cannot Skip

SBI has laid out some clear rules for exam day. Following them keeps things smooth for you and everyone else in the hall.

  • Reach your exam centre before the reporting time mentioned on your admit card.
  • Carry only the documents that are permitted. Anything extra could create confusion at the entry gate.
  • Listen to the invigilators and follow their instructions throughout the exam.
  • Sit only at the seat assigned to you. Do not swap seats with anyone, even if you think you have a better view of the clock from another spot.
  • Leave your mobile phone, smartwatch, calculator, Bluetooth device, and any other electronic gadget at home or in your bag outside the hall. These are strictly not allowed inside.
  • Do not bring books, notes, or any study material to the centre. If you have not revised by now, a last-minute glance at your notes outside the gate will not help much anyway.

Before the exam begins, take a moment to read through all the instructions displayed on your screen or handed to you on paper. Complete any formalities like biometric verification or signature matching without rushing. These few minutes matter, so treat them with the same seriousness as the exam itself.

A Quick Reminder Before You Go

Exam day nerves are normal, but a little planning goes a long way. Check your admit card twice, pack your documents the night before, and reach your centre with time to spare. Once you are inside, focus on the questions in front of you and let the rest take care of itself.
