Who can apply for SBI Clerk 2026?
Candidates must meet the age and education conditions set by SBI. As on April 1, 2026, applicants must be at least 20 years old and not more than 28 years old.
Applicants must have been born between April 2, 1998, and April 1, 2006, both dates included. Age relaxation will apply to eligible categories as per SBI rules.
Applicants must also meet the educational qualification mentioned in the detailed notification. Before applying, read the official notice and check the rules for your category, state or Union Territory.
State and local language rule
Candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory. They can also appear for the recruitment examination only once under this drive.
Applicants must know the specified local language of the State or Union Territory selected by them. This rule is important because candidates may need to take a Local Language Proficiency Test, also known as the LLPT.
Candidates who have studied the required local language in Class 10 or Class 12 will not need to take the LLPT. Those who have not studied it at either level will have to appear for the test if they are provisionally selected.
The LLPT checks reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills. It may include both objective and subjective questions, so knowing a few spoken phrases may not be enough.
SBI Clerk 2026 selection process
The selection process has three stages:
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Local Language Proficiency Test, where required
The final appointment will depend on the rules in the official notification and the candidate's performance in the required stages.
SBI Clerk preliminary exam pattern
The preliminary examination will be held online. It will carry 100 marks and will have objective-type questions. The test will last for one hour and will have three sections, with equal time given to each section.
There will be negative marking. For each wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. Candidates should avoid guessing without checking the options. One careless click can cost more than expected.
SBI has not prescribed minimum qualifying marks for individual sections or for the full preliminary examination. Section-wise marks will not be maintained. Candidates will need to meet the selection requirements set by SBI to move ahead in the process.
SBI Clerk main exam pattern
The main examination will also be conducted online. Candidates will need to secure the minimum aggregate qualifying marks prescribed by SBI.
No minimum qualifying marks have been set for individual sections. SBI has also stated that section-wise marks will not be maintained. Candidates should still prepare for every part of the paper because a weak area can reduce the overall score.
The detailed notification should be checked for the exact sections, marks, duration and other instructions for the main examination.
