Railway Group D 2027 Complete Guide: Latest Updates, Notification, PET, Top Coaching Institutes & Test Series

Hello students! I'm Runal Naik from AcademyCheck. If you are preparing for Railway Group D 2027, start with the four CBT subjects and train steadily for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). This guide explains eligibility, the exam pattern, physical requirements, coaching options and a practical preparation plan.

Railway Group D 2027: latest notification update

The 2027 notification and application dates are awaited. The eligibility, CBT and PET framework below comes from the official RRB Level 1 CEN 09/2025; the next notification will determine the new cycle's vacancies, age cut-off and schedule.

What is Railway Group D?

Group D recruitment covers Level 1 railway posts, including Track Maintainer and department-specific Assistant roles. Work can involve maintenance, operational support and field duties. The initial basic pay under the cited notification is ₹18,000, with applicable allowances and deductions affecting take-home salary.

The selection sequence is CBT, qualifying PET, document verification and the prescribed medical examination. The Railway Administration can conduct an additional CBT stage when required. For a different railway route, compare the qualification and selection stages in our RRB NTPC complete guide.

Eligibility: education, age and medical fitness

  • Education: the cited Level 1 notification accepts Class 10, ITI or equivalent, or a National Apprenticeship Certificate granted by NCVT. The required qualification must be completed by the prescribed closing date.

  • Age framework: 18 to 33 years in the cited recruitment, with eligible OBC-NCL candidates receiving three years and SC/ST candidates five years of upper-age relaxation. Other concessions depend on the relevant category conditions.

  • Nationality and certificates: meet the notification's nationality rules and use the prescribed category-certificate formats.

  • Post suitability: check the medical standard attached to each post before choosing preferences. Vision and other medical requirements vary by role; a PET pass does not replace medical fitness.

If you are choosing between entry-level examinations, our SSC MTS guide explains a different recruitment route and its post-specific requirements.

CBT pattern and syllabus

The CBT has 100 one-mark questions and a total duration of 90 minutes. Eligible candidates using a scribe receive 120 minutes under the cited rules. The section distribution is indicative and may vary in the actual paper.

Marking: each wrong answer loses one-third of a mark. The minimum shortlisting percentages are 40% for UR/EWS and 30% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST. These are eligibility thresholds, not a guaranteed selection cut-off.

  • Mathematics: number system, fractions, percentages, ratio, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, mensuration, algebra and basic statistics.

  • Reasoning: series, coding, analogy, syllogism, directions, relationships, Venn diagrams and data interpretation.

  • Science: Class 10-level Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences. Revise school concepts before using short fact sheets.

  • General Awareness: current developments in science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics and politics.

PET requirements: weight carrying and running

PET is qualifying. Candidates must complete the weight-carrying test first, followed by the run after a recovery gap. Each task allows one chance under the cited notification.

The carrying and running distances must be completed within the stated time limits. Do not put the load down during the carrying task. The female PET standard also applies to transgender candidates.

The specified PwBD categories, Course Completed Act Apprentices and Ex-Servicemen have PET exemptions under the notification's conditions. Documentary proof and the applicable remaining selection requirements still matter.

Build running endurance gradually and practise the carrying technique with suitable supervision. Record weekly timings rather than attempting the full test weight on your first day. If you are considering uniformed services too, the SSC GD guide explains its separate physical standards and tests.

Application and document checklist

  1. Read the detailed notification and corrigenda on the official RRB website, then follow its application link.

  2. Choose the permitted RRB and eligible post preferences carefully. The cited recruitment permits only one application.

  3. Match your name and date of birth to the relevant certificates; upload the required photograph, signature and documents.

  4. Pay the applicable fee and retain the final application and receipt. Check any examination-attendance refund conditions.

  5. Download the call letter when released and read its reporting time, accepted ID and centre instructions.

Prepare a folder with educational records, identity proof, category certificates where applicable, and apprenticeship or exemption evidence. Serving government/PSU employees should also check the NOC requirement for document verification.

Online coaching options for Railway Group D

Coaching is optional. Choose it when you need structured teaching, doubt support or regular practice. The four options below offer different routes; match the selected batch to your language, current level and available study hours.

1. Adda247: a scheduled foundation batch

Adda247 lists its Rail Udaan Foundation Batch 2027 with 349 live classes, 50 mock tests, 10 e-books and 12 months' access. It suits students who want a regular foundation timetable rather than only revision questions.

Faculty listed by Adda247:

  • Ashish Singh - 4+ years - Mathematics.

  • Veerendra Singh - 8+ years - Reasoning.

  • Neeraj Kumawat - 8+ years - Science.

  • Ashutosh Tripathi - 8+ years - General Studies.

Watch a full subject lesson and check how missed live classes are covered. Explore Adda247 on AcademyCheck and browse Railway courses to compare available support.

2. Oliveboard: English or Hinglish preparation

Oliveboard lists complete Group D courses in English and Hinglish, live doubt support and 25 Group D mocks. It is a useful shortlist option if your preferred teaching language is central to the decision.

Relevant faculty listed by Oliveboard:

  • Chhavi Sisondia - 5+ years - GK/GS.

  • Shefali Rathore - 8+ years - GK/GS.

  • Nishant Kumar Sah - 8+ years - Quantitative Aptitude.

  • Manish Grover - 12+ years - Quantitative Aptitude.

Try a sample mock and review its explanations before choosing a plan. Explore Oliveboard on AcademyCheck and compare Railway course options.

3. Physics Wallah: combined Railway foundation support

Physics Wallah lists the Hinglish Humsafar Express 2026-27 foundation batch for NTPC, Group D and other Railway exams, alongside a Group D-focused Rajdhani batch. The combined foundation route may suit beginners preparing for more than one Railway examination.

Faculty listed on PW's Railway page:

  • Manoj - 8+ years - Arithmetic and Advanced Mathematics.

  • Jitin - 8+ years - Reasoning.

  • Aditya - 12+ years - GK/GS.

  • Arti - 8+ years - Science.

Check your selected batch's teacher roster and Group D test coverage before enrolling. Use our Group D online-coaching comparison and Railway course directory for further shortlisting.

4. Testbook: live revision and structured practice

Testbook lists its Group D Junoon Live Batch 2026-27 with 250 Hinglish live classes and an Express crash course with 80 classes. Its course curriculum covers Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, General Knowledge and Science.

  • Testbook and Team - Individual teaching experience not specified on the course listing - Group D subject delivery.

Choose a crash course when you already know the basics and need guided revision. Request the subject-wise roster and try a class or test before paying. Explore the Group D coaching comparison and Railway course options.

The faculty experience and course features above are provider-reported; the selected batch may use a different roster. For classroom study, compare nearby Railway options through AcademyCheck's course directory and confirm specific Group D coverage.

How to choose a useful test series

  • Use 100-question, 90-minute full mocks with the correct one-third penalty.

  • Check that Science receives proper coverage alongside Maths and Reasoning.

  • Prefer clear solutions, language support and topic-wise analysis over a large advertised test count.

  • Practise on the device you will use regularly and check access validity before purchase.

  • Reattempt mistakes after revising the concept. Separate calculation errors, knowledge gaps and rushed guesses.

A manageable preparation plan

For the first month, spend most study time rebuilding arithmetic and Class 10 Science, with a short daily Reasoning set and current-affairs revision. In the next stage, add timed subject tests and one or two full mocks a week. Increase full-paper practice when your syllabus coverage is stable.

Keep an error notebook and one weekly revision session. Start gradual PET preparation alongside written study, so the physical stage does not become a last-minute obstacle. Use an official RRB practice test, when available, to learn the CBT interface.

Frequently asked questions

Is a separate Group D 2027 notification available?

The new notification is awaited. Use the official RRB notice board for the announced cycle and its corrigenda.

Can a Class 10 student apply without ITI?

The cited Level 1 notification accepts Class 10 as one qualification route. You must have passed the required qualification by the specified deadline and meet the other eligibility conditions.

Does PET performance add marks to the CBT score?

PET is qualifying under the cited framework. You must pass the applicable tasks to move through selection.

Is coaching necessary for Group D?

No. Self-study can work with school-level concepts, previous questions, timed practice and consistent revision. A structured batch is useful if you need teaching and doubt support.

Can one Railway test series cover NTPC and Group D?

A combined subscription can offer both, but choose the Group D paper when practising. NTPC has its own pattern and selection stages.

Summary and next steps
