NDA 2027 Complete Guide: Latest Updates, Eligibility, SSB Interview, Best Coaching Institutes & Test Series
Plan NDA 2027 with official dates, eligibility and marks tables, SSB stages and coaching options from Alpha NDA Academy, Major Kalshi Classes, Utkarsh Classes and Physics Wallah.
Hello, defence aspirants! I'm Runal Naik from AcademyCheck. NDA preparation needs two plans: one for the written examination and another for the SSB. This guide explains eligibility, the official 2027 calendar, coaching choices and how to prepare for both stages.
NDA 2027 dates and latest update
The UPSC Annual Calendar 2027 lists the following schedule. Dates may change; the examination notification will confirm the detailed conditions and vacancies.
Exam | Scheduled dates |
|---|---|
NDA I | Notification: 2 December 2026 |
NDA II | Notification: 12 May 2027 |
What is NDA and who should consider it?
UPSC conducts the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy examination for entry to the Army, Navy and Air Force pathways after school. It suits students interested in an officer career, military training and the responsibilities of service. Written qualification, SSB recommendation and final selection are separate outcomes.
Start by checking the wing you want, your school subjects and your age eligibility. A foundation coaching admission does not make a younger student eligible to sit the examination.
Eligibility: school subjects matter
The UPSC NDA notification sets out these educational routes:
Entry | Education |
|---|---|
Army | Class 12 or equivalent; any stream |
Air Force, | Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics |
Class 12 | May apply subject to the required qualification and proof deadline |
Class 11 | Not eligible to apply |
Unmarried male and female candidates may apply within the prescribed date-of-birth range.
The usual age band is approximately 16.5 to 19.5 years; match your actual date of birth to the 2027 notification.
Nationality and service medical standards also apply. Eligibility for one wing does not automatically establish eligibility for another.
Application and admit-card steps
Use UPSC's online portal. Complete account creation, Universal Registration, the Common Application Form and the NDA-specific module.
Keep your school certificates, photo ID, photograph and signature ready; follow the portal's live-photo instructions.
Check your wing preferences, date of birth, examination centre and fee/exemption before final submission. Save the application number and acknowledgement.
Download the e-admit card when UPSC releases it. Check the centre, reporting instructions and required ID; use the actual admit card to plan your journey.
Written exam pattern and syllabus
Paper | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|
Maths | 300 | 2.5 hours |
General | 600 | 2.5 hours |
Written | 900 | Two papers |
SSB | 900 | Separate stage |
The written papers are objective. An incorrect answer attracts a deduction of one-third of that question's marks; an unanswered question has no penalty.
Mathematics: algebra, matrices, trigonometry, analytical geometry, calculus, vectors, statistics and probability.
GAT: English plus general knowledge covering science, history, geography and current events.
Practise Maths under a timer rather than only watching solutions. For GAT, combine vocabulary and comprehension practice with short science and general-knowledge revision. Use UPSC's previous papers to judge the level, rather than a coaching advertisement's difficulty label.
SSB interview: what happens after the written exam?
Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating tests and Picture Perception and Description Test.
Stage II: interview, group tasks, psychology tests and conference, normally conducted over four days.
After recommendation: medical assessment and final merit/service allocation. Flying aspirants also face the applicable Computerised Pilot Selection System requirement.
SSB preparation is broader than memorising answers. Read and discuss current events, participate in sport or group activities, practise explaining your choices and reflect honestly on school, family and responsibility. A written-exam test series cannot replace group-task practice or individual interview feedback.
Coaching institutes for classroom and residential preparation
Coaching is optional. The useful choice is the programme that fixes your specific gap: academic concepts, consistent practice, supervised study or SSB feedback. These options are a student-fit shortlist, rather than a guaranteed-selection ranking.
Alpha NDA Academy, Sikar: a structured residential option
Programme fit: school-integrated foundation and post-Class 12 NDA preparation, with written practice, physical activities and SSB-oriented development.
Teaching evidence: its current academy page identifies separate Maths, English and GK faculty, and describes regular testing and performance review.
Faculty listed by the academy: Pawan Chaudhary - NDA mentorship and SSB/personality development; Mohit Sir - Mathematics; Rakesh Sir - English; Mukesh Sir - GK. The page identifies roles without individual teaching tenures.
Before admission: inspect the academic timetable, a teaching demonstration, supervision arrangements and the actual SSB sessions included in your programme.

Major Kalshi Classes, Prayagraj: classroom plus defence-stage support
Programme fit: NDA classroom preparation with doubt counters, physical training, study material and SSB guidance. Its MKC Learning App also offers an online route.
Faculty, as listed by MKC: Priyanka Singh - 10+ years - Mathematics; Gaurav Agrawal - 10+ years - English; Shiv Prakash - 10+ years - Physics; Anupama Pandey - 10+ years - Chemistry and Biology.
SSB mentors, as listed by MKC: Col Juneja - 15+ years - GTO; retired Wg Cdr K.P. Thakur - 15+ years - interviewing; Group Capt L.K. Pandey - 15+ years - psychology.
Before admission: match the named faculty to your assigned batch and distinguish classroom fees from accommodation and a separate SSB programme.

Online NDA coaching options
Utkarsh Classes: a current NDA I 2027 classroom-streamed batch
Current course: NDA Target (01/2027) Lakshya 2.0, streamed from the Jodhpur classroom, with live and recorded lessons.
Published learning schedule: 430-460 teaching hours, around 3-5 hours daily and a 3-4 month course. Teaching is Hinglish; access validity is 365 days.
Faculty example: Nayana Avasthi - 5+ years - Science, as shown on the course page.
Useful checks: try the listed free Pronoun and Matrices lessons, check the daily school-study workload and test video access on your intended device. Course access duration is different from the teaching duration.
Physics Wallah: school plus NDA foundation
Current programme fit: UDAY NDA FOUNDATION 2027 is listed with Class 11 and JEE/board combinations. It suits students building a foundation alongside school.
Learning support: PW describes live teaching, DPPs, revision and regular tests; SSB, mentorship and books vary by selected plan.
Faculty example: Neha Malik - 10 years - spoken-English support in selected plans, according to PW's defence faculty and NDA programme pages.
Useful checks: select the actual NDA attempt and teaching language, compare a Maths/GAT lesson with your level and confirm the assigned teachers and test coverage. A foundation programme and a short attempt-specific course serve different students.
For any online option, watch a complete sample lesson: can you follow its explanations, solve the next question independently and get a useful response to a doubt? Choose manageable study hours rather than the largest video library. Check course validity, downloads, device access and SSB inclusions once before paying.
Test series: choose by the papers you need
Maths practice: topic tests followed by complete 2.5-hour papers, with worked solutions.
GAT practice: separate English and GK analysis, rather than only an overall score.
Attempt support: Utkarsh's classroom course lists regular tests; PW describes weekly/monthly tests and Ranbhoomi test-series support. Confirm the inclusions for your chosen plan.
Feedback: record concept errors, calculation mistakes and risky guesses. Reattempt missed questions after revising them.
A practical study plan
Build the baseline: attempt a previous Maths and GAT paper. Identify weak chapters and protect your Class 12 preparation.
Build concepts: practise Maths daily, revise science/GK in short blocks and read English regularly. Follow one main course or book set.
Build exam control: introduce timed sectional tests, then full papers. Review each mock before adding another.
Build SSB habits: keep fitness, discussion, teamwork and communication in your weekly routine. Seek personal feedback rather than a rehearsed personality.
