If you have cleared NEET UG 2026, congratulations! The hard part of studying for hours on end is behind you. Now comes the next challenge: counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee, or MCC, handles admissions for MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing and other undergraduate medical courses under the 15% All India Quota. It also manages seats at AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, Deemed Universities, ESIC colleges and AFMS institutions. What Happens During MCC Counselling
Once MCC announces the schedule, the process will follow a familiar pattern for anyone who has watched a sibling or friend go through it before:
- Registration for each round
- Payment of the counselling fee
- Choice filling and locking
- Seat allotment result
- Reporting to the allotted college
- Round 2 registration and allotment
- Mop-up round
- Stray vacancy round
Each round has its own timeline, so missing one date does not always mean the end of the road. There is usually another chance in the next round.
Who Can Take Part
Not everyone who takes NEET UG needs to go through MCC. This counselling is meant for candidates applying under:
- 15% All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats
- AIIMS and JIPMER
- Central Universities and Deemed Universities
- ESIC Medical Colleges
- AFMS Institutions, if eligible
- BSc Nursing seats
The remaining 85% of seats fall under the State Quota, which each state manages through its own counselling body. So if you are aiming for a seat in your home state, you will need to check that authority separately.
Steps to Register on the MCC Portal
Registration is fairly simple once the portal opens. Here is what candidates need to do:
- Visit the official MCC counselling website
- Click on UG Medical Counselling 2026
- Register with NEET UG 2026 application details
- Enter personal and academic information
- Pay the counselling registration fee
- Upload the required documents
- Submit the form and save the confirmation page
That last step matters more than it sounds. Print the confirmation page and keep a copy, both digital and physical. You do not want to be searching for it in a panic during document verification.

A Few Things Worth Knowing
Seat allotment depends on your NEET rank, the order of your college preferences, reservation category and seat availability. This means the order in which you list your choices actually matters. Put real thought into it rather than listing colleges randomly.
If you do not lock your choices before the deadline, the system usually locks your last saved preferences automatically. So even a moment of distraction will not leave you completely stranded, though it is always better to lock things on purpose.
Candidates who face technical issues during registration or choice filling should contact the MCC helpdesk right away instead of waiting until the last date. Portals tend to slow down when everyone logs in at once, and nobody wants to be stuck refreshing a page an hour before the deadline.
Also, once your choices are locked for a round, you cannot edit them for that round. So double check everything before you hit that final button. It is a small step that saves a lot of stress later.
