AC Team

India Post has opened applications for 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts under the Online Engagement Schedule-II for July 2026. The recruitment drive includes vacancies for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak roles.
The One-Time Registration (OTR) process is already open. Candidates can submit the main application and pay the fee from 2 September 2026 at 5:00 PM. The last date for application submission and fee payment is 21 September 2026 at 5:00 PM.
State-wise vacancies
The posts are spread across postal circles in India. Maharashtra has the highest number of vacancies listed in the notice, with 2,297 posts for Marathi language candidates. Tamil Nadu has 2,118 Tamil language posts, while Uttar Pradesh has 1,691 Hindi language posts.
The main vacancies reported for southern states include:
- Andhra Pradesh: 917 posts
- Karnataka: 1,116 posts
- Kerala: 1,373 posts
- Tamil Nadu: 2,118 posts
Applicants must choose a postal circle where they meet the local language requirement. The local language is not a small detail here. It can decide whether a candidate is eligible for a post.
No written exam for GDS posts
India Post will not conduct a written examination for this recruitment. Selection will take place through a system-generated merit list based on marks scored in Class 10. The marks will be calculated up to four decimal places.
Shortlisted candidates will need to attend physical document verification. They must also pass a basic medical examination before final engagement. A high Class 10 score can help, so candidates should enter their marks with care and check every detail before submitting the form.
Who can apply?
Candidates must meet the following conditions as of 21 September 2026:
- Age must be between 18 and 40 years.
- Age relaxation will apply to eligible reserved categories as per government rules.
- The candidate must have passed Class 10.
- Mathematics and English must be compulsory subjects in Class 10.
- The candidate must know the local language of the selected postal circle.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
- The candidate must know how to ride a bicycle.
Applicants should keep their Class 10 certificate, identity proof, photograph, signature and category certificate ready. The name, date of birth and marks in the application should match the official school records. Even a small spelling error can turn into a large headache later.
Salary and work conditions
GDS posts are part-time, non-regular engagements under the Gramin Dak Sevak rules. They are not the same as regular Central Government posts. Most GDS workers serve for about four to five hours a day and receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA).
- Branch Postmaster: ₹12,000 to ₹29,380 per month
- Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470 per month
A BPM must live in the village where the branch post office is located and arrange suitable space for the local post office. An ABPM or Dak Sevak must live within the delivery area linked to the post.
Application fee
Male candidates from the Unreserved, Other Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections categories must pay an application fee of ₹100.
Female candidates, Scheduled Caste candidates, Scheduled Tribe candidates, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and transgender women candidates do not have to pay the fee, subject to the conditions in the official notification.
