What is IIT JAM 2027?

The Joint Admission Test for Masters is a computer-based entrance examination for postgraduate science programmes. JAM 2027 has seven test papers:

Only MCQs have negative marking: one-third mark for a wrong 1-mark question and two-thirds mark for a wrong 2-mark question. MSQs have no negative or partial marking; NATs have no negative marking. All three sections are compulsory.

Can you take two JAM papers?

Documents to prepare before opening JOAPS

• Class 10 marksheet or certificate.

• Recent colour passport photograph with a white or light background, 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, JPG/JPEG, 240 x 320 pixels minimum, 480 x 640 pixels maximum, and 50-200 kB.

• Signature in black or dark blue ink inside a 2 cm x 7 cm box, JPG/JPEG, 80 x 280 pixels minimum, 160 x 560 pixels maximum, and 50-150 kB.

• Valid category certificate, where applicable. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates should be issued on or after 1 April 2026.

• PwD certificate or UDID, where applicable.

Use a clear personal email address and mobile number that you will keep active through admission. Match your name and date of birth with the supporting documents.

How to apply for IIT JAM 2027

1. Open the official JAM website and follow the link to JOAPS.

2. Register using your name, email address, mobile number and password. Keep the generated enrolment ID safely.

3. Enter personal, communication and academic details exactly as supported by your records.

4. Select one paper, or two papers from different sessions, after checking programme-level MEQ.

5. Choose examination cities in your genuine order of preference.

6. Upload the photograph, signature and applicable certificates in the prescribed format and size.

7. Review every field, pay electronically and confirm that the transaction is successful.

8. Submit the form and download the completed application PDF and fee receipt.

You do not need to send a printed application to the organising institute.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Selecting a JAM paper before checking whether the target programme accepts it.

• Treating general JAM eligibility as confirmation of admission eligibility.

• Uploading a blurred photograph, cropped signature or outdated category certificate.

• Using a phone number or email address that you may lose access to.

• Making repeated payments before checking whether the first transaction is reflected in JOAPS.

After registration: separate the JAM sitting from programme admission

• IIT Bombay MSc Chemistry: Chemistry (CY); the listed route requires Chemistry for three years or six semesters plus Mathematics for one year or two semesters.

• IIT Madras MSc Physics: Physics (PH); the listed route requires Physics for two years or four semesters and Mathematics for one year or two semesters, while the brochure notes no subject restriction for engineering degrees.

• IIT Roorkee MSc Bioscience and Bioengineering: Biotechnology (BT); the listed route accepts a bachelor's degree in any branch or subject.
