IIT Madras has reopened GATE 2027 registration with a late fee until October 16, 2026, and announced exam dates, paper changes and application steps.

GATE 2027 Registration Reopens: Deadline, Exam Dates and Application Steps

The GATE 2027 registration window has reopened for a short period. IIT Madras, the organising institute for the exam, has opened the online application portal after receiving requests from candidates who needed more time.

Applicants can submit their forms with a late fee through the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The reopened window will close on October 16, 2026, at 10:29 AM. IIT Madras has also stated that there will be no further extension. In short, the clock is ticking, and it is not known for its patience.

GATE 2027 registration deadline

The portal is available from October 15, 2026, until 10:29 AM on October 16, 2026. Candidates who apply during this period must pay the applicable late fee.

Students should avoid waiting until the final hour. Payment failures, slow internet access or an incorrect document can delay submission. A form is complete only after the payment is successful and the application is submitted.

GATE 2027 exam dates

IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2027 on the following dates:

  • February 6, 2027
  • February 7, 2027
  • February 13, 2027
  • February 14, 2027
  • February 20, 2027
  • February 21, 2027

The exam will be held at centres across India and will cover 30 subject papers. GATE scores are used for admission to several postgraduate engineering and technology programmes, including MTech courses. Some other institutions and organisations also accept GATE scores for their own requirements.

New subject paper and paper structure changes

GATE 2027 will include Robotics and Automation as a new test paper. This gives eligible candidates from related engineering and technology fields another subject option.

IIT Madras has also announced a change for Textile Engineering and Fibre Science. The paper will be offered as a sectional paper under the same subject area.

Candidates must check the official paper details before selecting a subject. Those who want to appear for two papers must choose an approved combination. Not every pair of papers can be selected, so a quick check before payment can save a great deal of trouble.

How to apply for GATE 2027

Candidates can follow these steps to complete the application:

  1. Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
  2. Open the GATE Online Application Processing System, also called GOAPS.
  3. Log in with the required DigiLocker credentials.
  4. Check the personal details retrieved from DigiLocker and correct or confirm them as required.
  5. Enter the requested parent or guardian details.
  6. Provide information about the qualifying degree and educational institution.
  7. Select the preferred GATE 2027 paper.
  8. Choose an approved second paper combination, if applying for two papers.
  9. Select six preferred examination cities from the same examination zone.
  10. Upload the required documents as listed in the application instructions.
  11. Review the full form before making the payment.
  12. Pay the registration fee, including the late fee, through an available online payment method.
  13. Submit the form and download the confirmation page.

Details to check before final submission

A careful review can help prevent problems later. Candidates should check their name, date of birth, contact details, parent or guardian information, qualifying degree, college details, selected paper and examination-city choices.

They should also make sure that the uploaded documents meet the format and size rules given in the official guidelines. If the candidate selects two papers, the combination must appear on the approved list.

After submission, candidates should save the application number, payment details and confirmation page. Keeping a copy on both a phone and a computer is useful. The exam process has enough surprises without making your own paperwork one of them.

What candidates should do now

Applicants who have not submitted the form should complete it before the portal closes on October 16 at 10:29 AM. Candidates who already submitted an application should check their confirmation details and keep the submitted form safe.

For the latest instructions on paper choices, approved combinations, documents and payment, candidates should refer to the official GATE 2027 website and the examination information released by IIT Madras.
