DUSU Election Results 2026: Vote counting for the Delhi University Students’ Union elections began on September 19 at 8 am at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus. The main contest is between ABVP’s Yash Dabas, NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena and the AISA-SFI alliance’s Ananya Raturi for the post of president.
Students across Delhi University voted on September 18. More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote, while the overall turnout stood at 40.46 per cent. The results cover four central posts: president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary.
DUSU election results 2026: First round leads
After the first round of counting, ABVP’s Yash Dabas led the presidential race with 1,305 votes. NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena followed with 1,191 votes.
Riya Chhawdi of ABVP led the secretary contest with 909 votes. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen was ahead in the vice-president race with 1,391 votes. Independent candidate Vishesh Yadav led the joint secretary contest with 996 votes.
These are early figures, and the lead may change as officials count votes from all polling centres. University elections can turn quickly, much like a last-minute change in a class timetable.
Who is contesting the DUSU central posts?
A total of 20 candidates are in the final contest for the four central posts. Seven candidates are contesting for president, while five are in the vice-president race. Four candidates each are contesting for secretary and joint secretary.
- President: Yash Dabas of ABVP, Vijay Shankar Meena of NSUI and Ananya Raturi of AISA-SFI are among the key candidates. Ashmit Kumar, Ejaj Mansuri, Samarth Beniwal and Sameer Kumar are also in the contest.
- Vice-president: ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, NSUI’s Vir Chatrath and AISA-SFI’s Akshat Shikhar are contesting along with Aranya Singh Rathore and Deepanshu Shokeen.
- Secretary: ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi and Lakshya Raj Singh, NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary and Gopal Choudhary, and other candidates are part of the contest.
- Joint secretary: Candidates from ABVP, NSUI and AISA-SFI are competing for the post, along with other contenders.
ABVP, NSUI and AISA-SFI contest
ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance have fielded candidates for all four central posts. The presidential race has drawn the most attention, but the vice-president, secretary and joint secretary results will also shape the next DUSU team.
ABVP has reported wins in several college-level elections, including SRCC, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bharati College and Shivaji College. At SRCC, the organisation reported a clean sweep. College-level results can offer clues about student support, but they do not decide the central DUSU posts.
Issues that shaped the DUSU campaign
Student groups focused on issues that affect daily campus life. These included accommodation, campus safety, fees, public transport, placements, internships, attendance rules and access to college facilities.
Housing became a major issue after the Satya Niketan building collapse, in which seven people died, including five students. Student organisations placed different housing plans and campus demands at the centre of their campaigns.
For many students, these issues matter more than campaign speeches. A safe room, a lower fee bill or a reliable bus can have a bigger effect than a wall poster with a very serious-looking face on it.
Security and vote counting arrangements
Officials arranged 1,000 electronic voting machines for the election. Of these, 960 were used for polling and 40 were kept as reserve machines. EVMs from all 52 polling centres were moved to the counting venue before the results process began.
More than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed around the university. Restrictions were placed on roads such as Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road until the results are declared.
The Delhi High Court has also barred victory processions after the results. The order covers roads, university campuses and hostels. Anyone who breaks the order may face criminal action or contempt proceedings.

The next key updates will include round-wise vote totals, changes in candidate leads and the final results for all four central posts. The presidential contest between Yash Dabas, Vijay Shankar Meena and Ananya Raturi remains the main focus.
