DU Allows Class 12 Marks Based Admission at Two Colleges After CUET

Delhi University has opened another admission route for students who could not secure a seat through the Common University Entrance Test, or CUET. Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College can now fill vacant undergraduate seats through offline applications based on Class 12 marks.
This is a special, one-time permission. It comes after the CUET admission process and the Common Seat Allocation System, known as CSAS, ended with seats still vacant at both colleges.
What has Delhi University allowed?
Under the usual DU admission system, students apply through CUET scores and complete the process on the CSAS portal. The new rule gives the two colleges permission to accept offline applications and prepare a merit list using Class 12 marks.
The option applies only to seats that remain vacant. It does not replace CUET as the main route for undergraduate admission at Delhi University. Students should also note that an application does not guarantee a seat. Admission will depend on the available seats, the merit list, document checks and the college rules.
Courses and key dates
Bhagini Nivedita College said it would accept offline applications for several undergraduate courses. These include Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programmes, along with other courses where seats are available.

The dates and course list may differ by college. Students should read the latest notice issued by the college before visiting the campus. Carrying a complete file of documents can save a trip, and nobody wants to discover at the counter that the Class 12 marksheet is sitting at home.
Why are seats still vacant?
Both colleges went through several rounds of CSAS counselling. Even after these rounds, many undergraduate seats remained unfilled. College representatives linked the low number of applications to location and other local factors.
Aditi Mahavidyalaya is located in Bawana. The college said about 40% of its undergraduate seats were still vacant after CUET admissions. It also pointed to a challenge faced by students from nearby rural areas. Some families may not feel comfortable sending their daughters far from home for college. As a result, some students with strong Class 12 marks may not appear for CUET or may not apply to colleges that seem too far away.
Bhagini Nivedita College also said that several seats remained empty after the CUET-based counselling rounds. The college sought permission to use Class 12 merit so that eligible students could get another chance to join a DU programme.
What students should check before applying
Students who want to use this route should check the official notice of Aditi Mahavidyalaya or Bhagini Nivedita College. They should confirm the course, eligibility rules, fee, number of vacant seats and the place where the form must be submitted.
Applicants should keep these documents ready:
- Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets
- School leaving or transfer certificate, if required
- Valid identity proof
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Category, disability or other certificates, where applicable
- Copies of all documents and the original documents for verification
Students should ask the college whether a CUET application is required for this special process. They should also confirm if the Class 12 merit list will use overall marks or marks in specific subjects. These details can affect eligibility and ranking.
Demand for the same rule at other DU colleges
The decision has also led to a debate about equal treatment across Delhi University. The Indian National Teachers Congress, or INTEC, has questioned why the special admission route is limited to only two colleges.
The organisation has written to the Vice-Chancellor and asked the university to create a common and transparent policy for all colleges with vacant seats. Its view is that if Class 12 marks can help fill empty seats in some colleges, other colleges should also get the same option under clear rules.
Delhi University has stated that CUET will remain the main admission method for undergraduate courses. The offline process based on Class 12 marks applies only to the vacant seats at the two colleges under this special approval. Students should rely on official college notices for the latest information, since seats can fill before the stated deadline.
