Delhi University Plans Semester Abroad and New Skill Courses
Delhi University plans a semester abroad program, new entrepreneurship courses, and language certificates in Arabic, Persian, and Sanskrit Buddhism.

At the 1283rd meeting of the Executive Council, the university looked at several proposals that go beyond the usual degree-and-textbook routine. The goal is simple: give students real-world skills and a taste of life outside India, all while still earning their DU degree.
Study Abroad for a Semester
The biggest highlight is the new Semester Away Program. Under this plan, students can spend one semester studying at a well-known university in another country. Think of it as a study trip that actually counts toward your degree.
This program fits under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF-2022). Students who take part will get to experience how classrooms work abroad, how research is done differently, and how teaching styles vary across countries. The credits earned during this semester will be added to their DU degree, so there is no risk of falling behind.
The university believes this exposure will help students compete on a global level. It also opens doors to higher studies and job opportunities outside India, something that can make a big difference when applying for international programs later.
New Courses Built for Today's Job Market
DU is not just thinking about travel. It is also rolling out new Skill Enhancement Courses that focus on entrepreneurship and modern business thinking. Some of the new additions include:
- Entrepreneurial Mindset and Opportunity Discovery
- Design Thinking and Venture Development
- Venture Business Design and Go-to-Market Strategy
- Entrepreneurial Communication and Investor Pitching
These courses aim to build skills like innovation, leadership, and startup thinking. The idea is to help students create jobs instead of just hunting for them. In a job market that keeps shifting, this kind of practical training can matter more than another line on a resume.
Bringing Back Classical Languages and Culture
Alongside the modern courses, DU is also making room for language and heritage studies. Through its School of Open Learning, the university plans to start certificate courses in Arabic and Persian. Both languages carry centuries of literature, history, and culture, and learning them can open up career paths in translation, research, and international relations.
The Department of Buddhist Studies will also introduce certificate and diploma courses in Sanskrit Buddhism. These courses aim to keep India's classical language traditions alive while giving students a chance to dive deep into ancient texts and philosophy.
