The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the CTET 2026 examination. The Central Teacher Eligibility Test was scheduled for 6 September 2026. CBSE will announce the revised exam date after the fresh application window closes.
Candidates who could not apply during the first registration period can now submit their forms until 1 September 2026. The application window reopened on 25 August 2026 after directions from the Supreme Court.
Why has the CTET 2026 exam been postponed?
CBSE reopened the CTET application process to give eligible teachers another chance to meet the required Teacher Eligibility Test qualification. The decision follows the Supreme Court’s directions in a review petition.
The court said eligible teachers should get a fair and sufficient chance to complete the required TET qualification. In response, CBSE has allowed candidates who missed the earlier deadline to apply for the 22nd edition of CTET.
Important CTET 2026 dates
- Fresh application window opens: 25 August 2026
- Last date to apply: 1 September 2026
- Earlier scheduled exam date: 6 September 2026
- New exam date: To be announced by CBSE
The revised exam date is expected after the application portal closes. Candidates should check the official CTET website for the next notice. Do not rely on social media posts or forwarded messages for the exam schedule. They can create more confusion than a maths question at the end of a paper.
Who needs to apply again?
Candidates who did not complete and submit their CTET application during the earlier window can apply during the new window.
Applicants who already completed and successfully submitted their forms do not need to apply again. They should keep their application number, login details and payment record safe. Reapplying may lead to confusion, so candidates should wait for further instructions from CBSE.
How to apply for CTET 2026
Eligible candidates can apply online through ctet.nic.in. Follow these steps:
- Visit the official CTET website.
- Open the link for the CTET 2026 application form.
- Register with the required details.
- Fill in personal, academic and contact information.
- Select the suitable CTET paper and examination details.
- Upload the required documents in the given format.
- Pay the application fee through the available online method.
- Submit the form and save the confirmation page.
Check every detail before submission. Pay close attention to your name, date of birth, category, mobile number and email address. A small error in the form can become a big headache later.
What should candidates do now?
Those who plan to apply should complete the form before 1 September instead of waiting for the last few hours. Website traffic often rises near a deadline, and slow pages are not helpful when the clock is ticking.
After submitting the form, candidates should watch the official website for updates on the revised exam date, city intimation slip, admit card and other instructions. CBSE has not yet announced the new date for the CTET 22nd edition.
Applicants should also begin or continue their preparation while waiting for the schedule. Review the syllabus, solve previous question papers and set a study plan for both subject knowledge and teaching methods. The delay changes the date, not the need to prepare.
About the CTET 2026 application process
The first online application window for the 22nd CTET edition was open from 11 May to 10 June 2026. CBSE has conducted 21 CTET editions so far. The result of the 21st edition was announced on 30 March 2026.
For the latest information, candidates should use the official CTET portal and read each CBSE notice in full. Keep a copy of the submitted form, fee receipt and confirmation page until the examination and result process is complete.
